MPs vote down proposal for smaller Parliament

Hungary’s Parliament voted against a bill by the small liberal Free Democrats and conservative Democratic Forum designed to reduce the number of deputies in the national assembly to 200, on Monday.

The proposal was supported by 199 deputies; 148 MPs – mostly representatives of the main opposition Fidesz and allied Christian Democratic parties – abstained, while two deputies voted against the amendment.

199 for, 2 against, with 148 abstentions? So isn’t that passed, then???

  2. AP says:

It probably requires a “qualified majority” of, say, three quarters or two thirds.

  3. Abácsi says:

Probably all arranged in advance. They are not going to start doing the right thing for the country now when more of them can keep their snouts in the trough a little longer.

Would a turkey vote for Christmas?

    @ Benny;
    That was funny!

  6. Viking says:

But this was one of Viktor Orban’s promises to the Electorate.
But only after he has taken control, so they can change the electoral regions in such a way only Fidesz can win in 2014.

Neat how parliamentarians can tell the rest of society to suck it in, fire people etc., but cannot apply its own policies to themselves.

@Rolrox: Not only that ask a politician or any one connected (embassy staff, upper levels of civil service etc…) where they might be holidaying over the Christmas season and you may be surprised to hear Őszöd (made egregious by Gyurcsány’s speech) – or maybe not.
In these hard times, the state is still paying for luxury accommodation, hotel and spa resort, paid for fully by the state, at which only these shit heads can indulge themselves at tax payers expense.
No, sorry, not entirely true. They pay a nominal 8,000ft. All meals, accommodation, treatments etc… included – of course. We must keep these people fit, healthy and happy to serve us better. Poor things. And what a relief they will still be so numerous.
Oh, and who has and I believe still has the contract to maintain the gardens, estate etc… around the Őszöd complex? D-209 (Medgyessy Péter former member of III/II) daughter’s company. Must have won that fair and square then. After all Medgyessy served Hungary brilliantly in so many ways.
Then there is all the free and first class medical care they get. They have their own f**king hospital. No waiting, no lists. No small envelopes and grotty head bowing needed for them.
Like cutting the number of MPs, there has been ‘talk’ of getting rid of Őszöd, but has remained just talk. These people really do live in another world. Ask Fidesz and Jobbik if this is to go? no answer from anyone.
It isn’t just their pay, it’s all the other things we have to pay for.

Didn’t know… Just another kick in the nuts by the politcal class to the rest of us disenfranchised wimps.
