The significant lead of the main opposition Fidesz party ahead of the ruling Socialists has somewhat narrowed while support for non-parliamentary parties has increased over the past month, according to a Tarki poll sent to MTI on Wednesday.
Fidesz currently enjoys 37 percent support from all voters (down by 2 percentage points since November), while the Socialists continue to have 11 percent. The radical nationalist Jobbik, a non-parliamentary force, has increased its backing in the whole voting sample from 6 to 7 percent.
Among decided voters who would turn out for the vote, Fidesz is backed by 63 percent (down from 68 percent in November), the Socialists by 19 percent (up from 17 percent) and Jobbik by 12 percent (up from 11 percent).
The two minor opposition parties in parliament, the liberal Free Democrats and the Hungarian Democratic Forum, are backed by 1 percent each, falling short of the 5 percent threshold to win seats in Hungary’s Parliament. Nor would the green LMP become a parliamentary force if the elections were held now, but its backing has increased from 1 to 3 percent over the past month.
If elections were held this Sunday, 51 percent of eligible voters would turn out for the vote, up from 44 percent a month ago.

These polls are very encouraging because they recognize that Jobbik is gaining. The actual numbers are another thing. Some may recall that the polls predicted less than 5% and maybe one delegate for Jobbik for EP election but Jobbik won nearly 15% and 3 delegates. No illusion about Jobbik winning the 2010 elections but I hope that Jobbik wins more votes than the Communist MSZP. Scores of Hungarians are dying of starvation and freezing to death while the Communists oligarchs are getting super rich not through honest labor but by thievery of national resources. They belong in prison, not the Parliament.
MTI must be slipping because they correctly described Jobbik as “radical nationalist” without the usual Communist “maszlag” of calling Jobbik far right or worse.

You got any specifics on this?
If this was the case, I think we would see hunger-riots in Hungary, but we do not.
That a few homeless people will freeze to death during this cold-spell at the moment is nothing new, it happens all over the world.
Home-less people are normally not home-less due to bad economy, but because of mental problems.

In Mark’s home-country, the US, one can though speak about people dying of both starvation and all other things, but no one blames the Communists for that. US is missing much of the social protection that exists in Europe, so it is basically impossible to starve to death in Europe.
In Mark’s home country, the US, it is more the norm.
