Fidesz leader reportedly plans ministry mergers after election

Head of the main opposition Fidesz party Viktor Orban plans to merge the ministries of health, social affairs, culture and education if Fidesz wins next year’s parliamentary elections, daily Nepszabadsag said on Monday quoting sources close to the party.

Orban plans to change the current government structure and of the various scenarios planned, he is most keen on selecting a model that is based on 8-9 ministries plus a strong prime minister’s office to be headed by current Fidesz parliamentary group leader Tibor Navracsics.

Next to the ministries of foreign affairs, finance, economy and defence, a ministry of infrastructure is planned to coordinate European Union projects and operate state assets. Another ministry would oversee agriculture and rural development and the Ministry of Interior Affairs would be reinstated, the paper said.

It has not been decided whether labour should come under the ministry of economy, rural development or the merged organisation that would oversee health, social affairs, culture and education. According to paper, this latter organisation would be headed by an “external” health expert but Fidesz health expert Istvan Mikola is also a possible candidate for taking the reins.

So, not having so many ministries would then maybe lead to not needing so many buildings in Central Budapest. Of course splitting the few big ministries over several buildings will probably create a lot of internal confusion and transport-costs. Also given the ever increasing “prime minister’s office” the need to centralize on fewer physical locations will arise rather fast.
So, should we have a running bet on when Viktor will realize Feri’s dream on a ‘Ministerial Block’ in the middle of Central Budapest, something that Fidesz used as an example on State waste.

Or, will Viktor move out on the cheaper “videk” to build Hungary’s new Palaces of Government?
The latter would probably be the cheapest solution, even compared with staying in the current locations, spread out all over Budapest in old buildings in need of repairs.

Put the whole rotten herd out on the pusztas to
contemplate just what a mess this country is in.
Fidesz better start looking for a new leader because Viktor is just not up to the job.
What else can persuade us to vote for Fidesz besides
    the useless and corrupt MSZP?
We need to see a manifesto with the policies clearly set out so we can judge for ourselves.
