Hungary’s diplomatic corps has invested a lot of energy in further developing its ties with neighbouring countries during the past year, Foreign Minister Peter Balazs told MTI on Wednesday.
Balazs noted, however, that the nationalistic policies of two countries – Slovakia and Ukraine – still pose problems for ethnic Hungarian communities.
In Ukraine, the government restricts ethnic minorities’ access to education in their mother tongues, Balazs said.
Concerning Slovakia, the foreign minister said that Jan Slota’s National Party considers Hungary as a threat for the country, which has lead to “an openly and brutally anti-Hungarian policy”.
Balazs said he did not expect Slovakia to withdraw the recently adopted implementation decree to its contested state language law, but added that international pressure may force Slovakia to make certain changes.

just waste your energy on this Hungary… going on and on for years to come… and suddently you will wake up and see that hungarians in Slovakia no longer want to have ties to this agenda anymore… Czaky with Duray will burn out their potential soon, many don’t believe they represent us anymore… you are not helping, just doing intra-hungarian state populist politics
