President Laszlo Solyom on Tuesday declined to sign the bill on the implementation of Hungary’s new Civil Code, the president’s office told MTI in a statement.
The president also sent four other related bills back to parliament for review, the office said.
According to the president, the bill is “ill-considered” and it contains contradictions, which make it impracticable. The new law’s planned coming into effect in two stages is also problematic, as the authorities would be confronted with a multitude of legal changes twice within a few months, the statement said.
The document added that the earliest possible date for the new Civil Code to come into effect would be January 1, 2011, following a comprehensive review by parliament.
