MSZP candidate for PM pushes government to extend social spending

Prime Minister candidate of the governing Socialist Party Attila Mesterhazy said on Wednesday that he had requested Prime Minister Gordon Bajnai to extend Hungary's crisis management fund when it expires at the end of January.

Bajnai has promised to extend the fund which offers non-refundable aid to families in need, Mesterhazy said. The fund should continue to operate with unchanged conditions, he added.

The fund was set up in August 2009 to provide quick aid to families that temporarily got into a difficult situation as a result of the economic crisis. Some 84,000 applications have been submitted by January 2010, 76,000 have been assessed and eligible families received an average 40,000 forints (EUR 148) each. A total of 4.2 billion forints have been accumulated in the fund so far.

Mesterhazy said the crisis would not be over in 2010 and its effects would need to be managed for several years.

What is this turkey talking about? The Communist MSZP, this turkey’s party siphoned off the utility refunds due to people who paid more for their gas and electricity than they should have. It was not the Communists’ money. It was the customers' money, ordinary people the utility overcharged.
The Communists took away basic services from poor families and children’s meals while giving 100 million forint payoffs to their people. These jokers could care less if all the poor people starved and froze to death.
First, vote them out of power and then put them in jail as just punishment for their crimes.

@Mark: Just curious - why do you not consider yourself a communist? You sound like one to me.

@Erik
It is not very sporty of you to pose a provocative question and hold up my response.

@Erik
Everything I said about the Communist MSZP/SZDSZ government is true and all you come back with the lame old line that if someone dumps on the Communists, you call them a Communist. Will you people ever tire of that?

If the Communist MSZP/SZDSZ mafia would stop giving hundreds of millions to organizations such as the Jewish/Communist Mazsihisz, there would be money left to feed poor Hungarian schoolchildren.

The appalling record of the MSZP speaks for itself.
They are finished. Election this year. A new broom sweeps clean...just joking.
The politicians can stand as red, white, or the blue variety. It makes no difference. They are all tarred with the same brush. Quite simply inveterate liars that promise things that they simply cannot deliver.
Twenty years, twenty years, and still we weep the same old tears.
Fidesz will be elected. What plans do they have?
Far better to discuss this issue than cut each other to pieces over how corrupt and totally useless the MSZP are, and have been!

Far Away Rabble Scum - You don't live here, you are not Hungarian, you don't know what you are talking about.

Magyarország a magyaroké! Az is marad!

Ubunga az ubungaiaké! Az is marad!

@Mark: De csak mű-magyar vagy (olyan mint a 'plastic paddy' Angliában), azért soha nem lesz a tied.

Someone using a French soubriquet on an website in English about Hungarian politics and posting in the good old Anglo-Saxon vernacular. Quite surreal...
(Faraway places with strange-sounding names.)
Forditas..Forditani..For god's sake - grow up!!!

Does this make you feel better, a good English name, on an english language site, writing in my mother toungue, about the country I live in, pay tax in and don't want to see further ruined by people like Mark, Richy, Stan, Law, Bela, oh I dont think there is enough space to trot out all their various aliases. None of them are Hungarian by birth! They are all pitiful foreigners grasping at their parents, or even grandparents, roots. Some, like that trog Mark, don't even live here, just whining for far away

Choose whatever name you like. Do I care. I am not Hungarian. I have lived here for three years. And I pay my bills, taxes, etc etc without help from anybody. I also do not care about the list of names that you trotted out nor what political views they hold.
I am happy and treat people with respect including Roma.I do not make generalizations
about people because they belong to a particular group or party etc. Let us hear what they have to say and if it is racist/intolerant bullshit etc - let the leopard be known by its spots.
Conversely, I won't be bullied by anyone whether it is Erik, Wolfi, Vándorló etc etc. I have my own views!
I tolerate the followers of Oscar Wilde as well!

Kovacs, then you must be new here because the leopards are already quite well know by their spots.

So be it! But I think there are leopards that also patrol these parts that are not, at first, all they appear to be.
I am not new my French-sounding amigo..merely naive perhaps.
Certainly short on the old 'bonhomie' in these parts -for sure!

@Kovács
Since you categorically state that you are not Hungarian, why chose Kovács? How about Newcomer? You should know that these avo types already got a fix on your location from your IP. They are so clever…
@Erik
Are you feeding these clowns the IP information? That would not be a nice thing if you did it.

@Mark: Of course ...

"You should know that these avo types (read Erik, Viking, wolfi) already got a fix on your location from your IP. They are so clever… (thanks for that compliment - took you a long time ...)"

"Are you feeding these clowns the IP information"

- sure, we avo neoliberal jewish commie nazi germans are already preparing to do to you what Ehrenburg asks us to do ...

Kovács = Smith in English. Does it really matter what name we use? Surely what we say should be of more importance and concern?
My moudus operandi at the minute is to try and encourage a more diverse audience to this site.
Looking back over the past efforts it seems somewhat
bottle-necked with the same old adversaries/protagonists slogging it out with the usual to-and-fro contradictions.
Farkas László in my opinion is the guiding light we should all strive to emulate.
If negativity was sold by the kilo we would win hands down!

The name you chose does not really matter, just odd. Good luck with your Farkas László blueprint idea. It does not work that way. What we have is one group of people who believe that Hungary belongs to the Hungarians while another group of people who see Hungary and Hungary’s resources and people as something to exploit and abuse. While the first group of people has some connection and loyalty to Hungary, the second group has none.
What is there to debate with someone who wants to steal everything you have? If someone puts a knife to your throat, you try to take it away to protect yourself and those you care for.
I like László but his nice posts have not done anything to deter the colonists or the desire of those opposing the colonists. This list is about Hungarian politics whereas László’s ideas are less political and more cultural. I read his posts, say to myself, what a nice man and move on. There was a time when these avo types would have pulled out his fingernails with just as much delight as Law’s, Ricsi’s, Zsuzsa’s (justasking?) or mine. They do not know about you yet but I would caution you to keep your gloves on and trip those fingernails.
If the nastiness of these arguments bothers you, you could stay out of the fray and hope that László spends enough time on this list to make it interesting for you or find a list where cultural issues dominate. My favorite is the program called ŐSÖK TERE, aired on HirTV or some of the very high quality cultural programs on DunaTV. That is if you understand Hungarian. The survival of Hungary is the most often discussed topic on most lists. According to the polls, the majority of Hungarians see Fidesz as their hope while others no longer trust Fidesz and look to Jobbik for saving Hungary from her internal and external enemies.

Yes, as usual the normal lies.
I obviously belong to Mark's 2nd group, the really bad guys.
So what do I do?
My main business line for the last 15 years has been outside Hungary, but I let my Hungarian companies invoice so the income of my own work comes in officially and white as snow from US-dollar and Euro to Hungarian banks.
This actually improves Hungary's Trading Balance and raises the Hungarian GDP.
I do not take out any money from Hungary, I put in foreign money.
Most of this money is invested in local Hungarian businesses that we also have, not extremely big but at the peak we had 15 people employed.
Since many years we have leased out the operation of the local business, then I am too busy earning this 'bloody foreign' money and it is hard to live on the local business only. Last year we could not get the full rent from the people running the operations, so we had to accept less to help them survive. To be able to do this we really need this 'bloody foreign' money that I earn from abroad.
So, if I did not care for the locals here, why should I just not cut my costs and make 10-15 people redundant (that now earn a living on the place I rent out and loosing money on)?
-
Not being a Yankee, like Mark, I do take care of people. Mark's kind just look into ways how to kill people and spread hatred.

Just to add to Viking's statement:

I am retired so I don't make any money, I just spend it - much if not most of it in Hungary.

In the last 12 years I've stayed about a third of my time here and spent between 15 and 20 million forint here ...

Buying and renovating my house also cost more than 20 million - all of this money came from Germany, so only the Germans might complain ...

Now, tell me, who is robbing Hungary ?

I should also add the money that my relatives and friends from Germany and the UK spend, when they come to visit us here in beautiful Heviz ...

just as a hypothetical...let's say that one fine day, the changes that are often suggested by Mark and those of similar mind happened. What would happen?All those of non-Hungarian extraction had to leave.(at what point does a person become non-Hungarian?)All Jews/Roma had to leave.All foreign debts are cancelled.Whichever judges, lawyers politicians deemed unsuitable are removed from their positions.All foreign companies are evicted and their assets seized.Hungary withdraws from the EU. Please add to the list whatever you feel should be there.
What else would happen?For one thing, a lot of Hungarians would be out of work overnight.Gas for heating from other countries would be switched off.All foreign trade and loans would stop, including funding from the EU.The death penalty would return, the government would likely become more autocratic, as opposition would be seen as 'anti-Hungarian', with opposition parties coming under greater pressure.The right of 'free speech' would likely mean that speech is free as long as you say what you're supposed to.Hungary would become an international pariah. Inflation would soar, while the Forint became worthless.The flow of young people out of the country looking for opportunity would increase unless steps were taken to stop them...and if not, the problem of too many dependents and not enough workers would only get much worse.
No Mark.Some foreigners don't want to exploit Hungary, but your effort to polarise everyone make it hard to help.

@Cináed
The problem with you people is that you tell us what we want to do, not what we say we want to do. Starting out with lies as you do, it would be meaningless to argue with you.
The basic ingredient for any reasoned debate is some integrity from those who engage even in adversarial discussions. You do not define what I want and propose, I do. Is that so hard to understand for you people?

Mark, what I wrote had nothing to do with telling you what you should or should not propose...it was about what would happen if you got your way. It was also about making the point, as you yet again showed, that even when people try to be open minded and engage in discussion about how to assist Hungary, you attack them, categorise them, and sing the tune that you WANT to sing, rather than listening to the actual words that I (or others) might say.
So, then, tell me, if you are really honest about it, what consequences do you see if all of your proposals were enacted?

@Cináed: "just as a hypothetical...let's say that one fine day, the changes that are often suggested by Mark..." You only have to look at what has happened to Venezuela under Chávez. Pávaszem (writing as Visitor), Ricsi and Tünde use to go on about Chávez, as did HírTV, Magyar Hírlap etc... They are pretty quiet about him these days and there is little wonder why.
Sitting on massive oil wealth he has single-handedly destroyed his country's economy, scared off most external investors and left the opposition go running for cover or fleeing the country. GDP was -4.3 even with their oil wealth!! For 2010 it's predicted to be -3.4 lower than Hungary's. Industrial production latest (October) was -19.8!! Consumer price inflation +28.6 and it goes on and on... Look what Jobbik have planned for Hungary.
Back in February last year I made a 'joke' for Ricsi:
"Time to bring Chavez back into he mix:

Krisztina Morvai's Hungary + (Chavez's Venezuela - Oil) = Idi Amin Dada' Uganda circa 1978

Ricsi, and you other clowns, to you see how you man Chevez is turning into a right little dictator, begging foreign companies to work with him and the centre of discontent (http://nol.hu/lap/vilag/lap-20090209-20090209_2-17 )"
Under a year and will these people still be praising Chávez this time next year?
And what of the Finno-Ugric minorities in Putin's Russia and since? What of the status of the Turkish tribes too (for those like Law who prefer the Kyrgyz nonsense)?

@Cináed
Do not expect to be taken seriously when you start out by spitting out a bunch of garbage pretending that is what the other person proposes. Go buy yourself some integrity then come back and tell us what you stand for not what you claim others stand for.

Van@You are rambling and to be honest i don't give a fuck about Chavez and never did,I only admired his standing up to the US.Now Putin is different-He I do admire.
Clear?

I only admired his standing up to the US.Now Putin is different-He I do admire.

Ahh, Ricsi and Mark will have a nice tête-à-tête when they meet soon here in Budapest.
.
Mark can speak about how
"Russian tanks never will roll down the streets in US" and "how good it is to live in the most powerful nation in the world".
.
Ricsi will speak about his love for Put In and the Russian (what-ever)-cracy and the Revival of the Cheka, the most powerful Mafia in the world.
.
And both will claim to be 'Real Hungarian Patriots'.
Why not involve Law also and he will speak about his fascination for Buddha and that Buddha also was a 'Real Hungarian' deep in his Heart (he just did not know that)?

@Ricsi: Ok, I'll leave the discussion about Chávez and how 'standing up to the US' helps anyone to Pávaszem and others.
On Putin Russia's internal policy towards minorities, does it worry you at all? Does in matter what has/is happening to the Chuvash, Mari, Udmurt...? Russia imposition of Russian, suppression of traditional customs, language and religion?
And locally, what of the Russian monument. Before the World War II that site was the place of a large flower bed to the pre-Trianon Hungary. It was said that it would always be there until Hungary was united again.
The Soviets planted their monument right on top of it and now you and Jobbik are desperate to please your new masters.
Since I've been reading up on the Chuvash (I know it annoys you, but reading is better than roaming the streets in gangs picking on people just because of their ethnicity) here's something on to educate you about one of the cultures your friend Putin would like to eradicate:

Viking are you on NO DOZ tablets? Get a friggen life
!! It appears being an agent must be quite
lucrative.....

Van-Why do YOU care so much about those poor minorities in Russia? What about the Hungarian minorities since you live here,or the Palestinians in there own occupied country,or your fellow Irish in the North---you get my point,too many people suffering all over the world and nothing dreamers like you can do about it!
As for the 'Soviet' monument,I believe it should be re-located but protected also,in memory of all nations dead,no matter what politics.

Hi Ricsi
Check this out, Romanians re engraving WW1 graves
http://barikad.hu/node/44636

@Ricsi: "Why do YOU care so much about those poor minorities in Russia?" Well, as with most things, it's because I have a personal connection to the topic. Back from when I first came to Hungary (retraining the excess Russian teachers) I got on much better with everyone in the Finno-Ugric department than anyone else (amongst us foreigners, that is). I happen to know Mari, Estonians, Finns, Latvians... Outside of that, I'm studying Turkish and the minor Turkish related nations in Russia, such as the most ancient Chuvash greatly interest me. Particularly as the Chuvash territory borders part of Mari-El.
And no, Putin and his party are directly responsible for a program of eradication, Russification and suppression. They are doing everything they can to wipe out these languages and cultures.
And they certainly care nothing for Hungary. It's only a matter of time before we see it, majd meglátjuk a medvét.

Van-Okay I admire your sentiments but still think that Russia needed a strong leader,and Putin was that man-what they ultimately think about Hungary is not so important so long as we can have a good bilateral relationship.Hungarys problems can only be solved by Hungarians and not outside interference from any quarter.

Russia needed a strong leader,and Putin was that man
Ricsi at January 10, 2010 8:30 PM
---
Why?
Russia has always been a threat to its neighbours when it just had a strong leader and was united into building up its Empire.
Or are we feeling more sorry for the Russians than the Hungarians?
Are we not defining our world from:
What Is Good For Hungarians?
