The criminal prosecutor proposed suspended prison sentences for 8 defendants who took part in the siege of Hungarian state television MTV headquarters on September 18, 2006 in a trial on Monday. The prosecutor also proposed fining a ninth defendant and acquitting a tenth, in the absence of evidence.
Most of the defendants admitted partial guilt to throwing stones during the siege.
The siege occurred after a group of demonstrators outside Parliament called to have read out on TV their petition, which included the stance of those protesting the Balatonöszöd speech by the then prime minister Ferenc Gyurcsány, which had been leaked to the media the previous day.
The crowd caused Ft 29 million of damage to MTV by ransacking and looting the building, overturning cars and setting objects alight. More than Ft 70 million worth of police equipment was also damaged.

Was it really just 29 MHUF of damages in the MTV-house and 70 MHUF of police equipment?
Figures look a bit strange, like a ’0′ wandered around.
Otherwise I need the get the contact-info on those guys that renovated the MTV-house for only 29 MHUF, seems very cheap.
Do not need to buy a used car from that guy who sold those Police Cars though.
Surprised that anyone was convicted. Jobbik has long maintained that the entire MTV was a set-up to distract attention away from Gyurcsany leaked admission of lying to the Hungarian people. We just recently found out that the leak came from within the Communist MSZP gathering. All very convenient.
Having deliberately exposed the undermanned members of police a MTV to attacks by a mob of usual destructive elements and paid provocateurs of Communist MSZP, the police was all fired up to commit horrible acts of brutality against peaceful Hungarians on October 23, 2006.
This explains the light sentences. Why would the Communist court give harsh sentences to those who were doing the Communist government’s bidding?

The first part is of course BS.
The only thing that has been made publicly lately was that probably no radio-equipment was used to make the recording as such. From day one it was clear that the recording was of such high quality that it was made with professional equipment and not just some ones mobile, etc.
It is old news and what the findings that were published a few weeks ago found, was that they still could not find who was behind the leak, including the recording.
According to news reports in September 2006 a CD was on offer to several Hungarian media for a few MHUF, but no one bought it. It was after that made public for free.
In Mark’s conspiracy-theory there is as usual a problem and that is ‘Who Stood To Gain’ on the leaked report. Since 2006 it has been speculation from every one from Gyurcsany to Orban Viktor.
Still no one has been proven with the leak and no one claimed responsibility.

The other part of the conspiracy-theory it was first fielded by the liberal Fidesz-member Pokorny that the MTV-riots/siege was done by Paid Government Provocateurs.
No one has ever proven that, not even close.
On Pestiside in the Autumn of 2006 I actually offered 100.000 HUF for any one who could prove any Governmental Paid Provocateur involved in the MTV-siege.
Erik is free to repeat that offer here, it still stands.
And I am a man that stands for my words.

It was extremely irresponsible that one of the Vice-Presidents of the biggest opposition parties went out on Hungarian National TV and made these statements without having a single proof for this.
It was of course a tactical Fidesz-way to tackle the public backlash the MTV-storming had created and they did not want to use the normal democratic route and blast the rioters, so they blamed the Government for the riots and therefore did not need to condemn violence as a political act.

We all know that the 2006 events highly made the most extreme nationalist movement more militant.
On L88 (88 as Heil Hitler) you could read reports that described the actions of Budahazy during the storming. Info that was correlated by other, more mainstream, sources also.
The people convicted in these trials were just a few stone-throwers that was caught on camera enough to be convicted.
The punishment is not harder than this to participate in a riot in Hungary.
That is it.
Mark’s twisted logic that this is proof itself, is just BS.
