The new US ambassador to Budapest Eleni Tsakopoulos-Kounalakis presented her credentials to President László Sólyom at the Sándor Palace on Monday.
She was nominated for the post by US President Barack Obama in October.
At her hearing in Congress the ambassador said she wants to help US investors in Hungary and to focus on economic and energy matters. The envoy added that she intends to co-operate with the Hungarian government on issues of minority rights.
