Hungary continues to be a stable democracy, human rights watchdog Freedom House says in its latest report, in which it awards the country top marks for the respect of political and civil rights.
Hungary, Bulgaria and Latvia were the CEE countries worst affected by the global financial crisis, the NGO said.
Freedom House has compiled world reports on political and civil rights annually since 1972.
This must be a slap in the face for those that think Hungary is still a 'Communist Dictatorship' and call your own home-grown terrorists (Budahazy with followers) 'Political Prisoners'.
Yeah, Baader-Meinhof/RAF were just that, 'Political Prisoners of the Fascist West-Germany'.
Seems like we are living the reality of (West-)Germany/Italy in the 70s.
Well, unless you think Freedom House is a Zionist plot, which I am sure lots of folks do.
Erik, Is jewbaiting OK for the list owner?
:-)
Of course, if he's a card-carrying member of the international Jewish conspiracy, like I obviously am.
That makes all the difference. Fire away!
Freedom House has a shorter memory than most Hungarians. I still vividly recall the outrageous police brutality against peaceful Hungarian citizen on October 23, 2006. This was one of the first issues Dr. Morvai addressed as a new EP member.
It took this long for one or more police to admit to their brutal conduct as one police said, it was enough for someone to have a Hungarian flag for them to beat hi/her up. There were numerous other brutal violations of human rights that will not be forgotten and those responsible will be held accountable, sooner or later. The Communist MSZP/SZDSZ mafia had its provocateurs out in full force trying to create a confrontation with the police on October 23 and other public events.
One tall young man stands out in my mind. It was on HirTV. He would go up to the police line and provoke them repeatedly, flailing his arms and urging others to attack the police. I became suspicious when I noticed that the police did not take any action against him. When no one fell for his trickery, he would walk across the police line and disappear, probably to go somewhere else to try the same thing again. He was clearly working for the police and the Communist MSZP/SZDSZ mafia and I doubt very much if he was the only one.
I wonder what other provocations the Communist MSZP/SZDSZ mafia is planning for the election campaign. They will fail because Jobbik events are well organized and provocateurs are quickly singled out. My advice to botox Lendvai, that dinosaur of unbridled Communist rule to keep her provocateurs away from Jobbik events. Nobody is going to fall for their tricks.
Freedom House is a very biased organization. Many countries do not trust it. It is very politicized and dependent. Besides, professionalism of its staff members is under big question mark.

That is the HVIM and L88, right?
@Kun
Human Rights Watch is better:
http://www.hrw.org/
We assume Mark means the latest report where Hungary is mentioned in:
http://www.hrw.org/en/node/83161/section/5
-
The 2 passes are:
"In Hungary and Romania, some ministers and parliamentarians have vocally defended LGBT people’s rights"
-
"Hopes for such change vary immensely, between the repressive atmosphere of Russia—where neither courts nor lawmakers preserve much independence or have time for LGBT concerns—to the openness of Hungary and the Czech Republic (where forms of partnership and other protections have been achieved)."
-
So Human Rights Watch is not so unhappy with Hungary, compared to the regional perspective.
"Hungary continues to be a stable democracy, human rights watchdog Freedom House says in its latest report, in which it awards the country top marks for the respect of political and civil rights."???
Preposterous nonsense from yet another bunch of numbskulls that masquerade under the fluffy title
"Freedom House" which they believe gives them more credibilty than they would otherwise get from a discerning public.
Hungary is neither stable in a democratic, economic,or social sense. And, as for respect of civil and political rights..??
The compilers of this report are obviously lackies of their erstwhile communist paymasters.
PS. I suggest they tune in to Erik's forum on a regular basis. And learn about the real Hungary and just what really does go on in la-la land.

Compared to the rest of Europe, Hungary is not so much off. People are unemployed every where, business is not going so good and the over-all European business mood is not very positive.
Germany have their forbidden political organisations and there are fellow European countries with much more political induced violence at home (UK, Denmark, maybe France), so the situation in Hungary is rather calm and stable on the whole.
That people do not trust their politicians, show me that country where they do?

What can be out of the ordinary for Hungary can be the serial-killing of innocent Roma, that finished with the arrest of the 'Debrecen-Nazi', otherwise Finns kill each other in a higher degree than Hungarians, etc.
