MDF approves program, cooperation with liberals

The national delegates of the small conservative Democratic Forum approved the party’s election programme and cooperation with the liberal Free Democrats in Budapest, the chairman of the party’s national board told a news conference on Saturday.

The national board’s decision also opens up the possibility for localities throughout the country to opt to form cooperation pacts with the liberals, though this is unlikely to happen in most counties, said Zsolt Makay.

The party will put forward its own list in all the twenty regions and nationwide, he said. But on the Budapest list there will be liberal politicians included, he added.

Lajos Bokros, the party’s prime-minister candidate, issued an open invitation to Viktor Orban, leader of the main conservative opposition party Fidesz, for a public debate. He insisted that Fidesz was preparing to take the reins of power without having a clear set of policies. Bokros said that the past few weeks had shown that the party’s policymaking was in a state of chaos.

Polls indicate that neither the Democratic Forum nor the Free Democrats would have enough support to get back into parliament on their own.

Meanwhile, the national board of the Free Democrats on Saturday approved the election pact with the Democratic Forum. The deal gives the liberals 17 names of the Budapest list compared to 14 for the Democratic Forum and they will field one joint candidate on the list. A number of joint candidates are expected to be entered in individual constituencies.

Will this keep David and Herenyi out of prison?

What are David and Herenyi accused of?
In what some people describe as the biggest legal scandal since 1990 the victims of a Fidesz-led plot ended up accused
    Hungary’s answer to Watergate?
    In short:
Fidesz started a plot to replace David with one of MDF’s vice-presidents Almassy
Nothing special with this, Fidesz has tried for the last 15 years make MDF into a similar side-kick as KDNP, but a small core of MDF has resisted. Many are those MDF-politicians that have left for better positions in Fidesz during the years
The unique with this incident is that the Hungarian National Security Office raided UD Zrt, a private securitz company who is responsible for the computer security of OTP, the largest Hungarian bank headed by the richest man in the country, Sándor Csányi (550 million USD)
After the raid David gets a CD on which one can clearly hear one of the owners of UD Zrt, János Tóth, talking to somebody whom he calls “President,” informing him that András Tombor would like them to find some dirt on Dávid. Later the “President” supplies the information that the real name is Almássy. Tóth then continues: “Yes, yes, Józsi [József Horváth, another owner of the company] will meet with him. He will be the one who tells us what kind of information he would like from us”
David and Herenyi’s ‘crime’ was that they confronted Almássy with this recording and gave him the offer to resign silently or have the CD published
    This is black-mail in Fidesz/Jobbik-land
