Survey finds Orbán's speech given C+ by public

The state-of-the-nation speech by main opposition Fidesz leader Viktor Orban got a C+ in a Median survey published in Monday's Nepszabadsag.

Canvassed on the day after the Friday speech, about 80 percent of respondents were aware of Orban's address and one third claimed they had listened to it or at least parts of it.

Orban's speech was described as "supportive, calm and focused", but he lost marks on "willingness to compromise".

Most respondents cited two or three sound bites from the speech, mainly the promise of change and one million new jobs under an Orban government.

About 25 percent of respondents said retaliation or holding politicians to account for past misdeeds were part of Orban's agenda. Only a few respondents remembered Orban saying his government was "not vengeful".

Fidesz supporters rated the speech 4.2 on a scale of one to five.

A quarter of the people polled said his speech was among the important events of the past week, but it did not surpass the public-transport scandals in Budapest.

"one million new jobs under an Orban government"

Did Orban indicate how he'll manage that ?

Did Orban indicate how he'll manage that ?

That is easy, just put work-restrictions on social welfare and suddenly all people getting social welfare are 'working'
You should easily 'create' a few 100.000 jobs out of that
.
To be honest it will be hard not to create jobs in the next 3 years, regarding that the number of current real jobs are at its low in this financial crises
Starting your stats on a low level is a very good trick
Question is if it will be 1 million more jobs 2013 compared with 2007?

“Median survey published in Monday's Nepszabadsag”
Now, here is something folks can trust without reservation :-)

New jobs will include spin doctors, personal managers, people employed in government departments fighting corruption, and another department investigating the department fighting against corruption. A separate tax department dealing with the new taxes introduced on a daily basis, and a printing department to produce the never-ending forms that bureaucracy thrives on.
It is expected that a further thousand people could be employed in the new statistics office
to transfer hundreds of tons of paper stats into digital data.
Other ideas for job creation schemes will be organising a department to come up with ideas for creating job creation programs. The retirement
age might be lowered to 40 years for both men and women. This, said an opposition spokesman, will go some way to reducing the unacceptable levels in unemployment.

my comment to orbans speech:

The man who is denied the opportunity of taking decisions of importance begins to regard as important the decisions he is allowed to take."

"one third claimed they had listened to it or at least parts of it."

Must have been boring haha. I guess he needs to understand that there are other things that people can do while he is speaking and thus must make the speech A.M.A.Z.I.N.G to keep people interested.

@judas
So, you are not an Orban booster either. We already know that you hate Jobbik.
Tell us which party you support and why.
Do you like Senkihazy, the Communist politburo’s PM candidate?
Tell us why you like him or why you do not like him.

Jobbik, the only Hungarian party in the European parliament that voted against the European Commission said Zoltán Balczó. According to Balczó, commission members are appointed by governments and accepted by the parliament regardless of their fitness for the position.

The procedure of nomination is the exact opposite, how it should be; first, governments nominate commissioners and then the EU finds them position within the structure said Balczó.

The other reason that Jobbik voted against the European Commission is that the new commission does not seem to bring new approaches into the system, but follows the the old method of neo-liberal economic policy, based on the idea of the centralized super state that ruined Hungarian economy.

The opposition against the European Commission is growing in the EU Parliament; 137 members voted against the Commission.

Under EU rules, MEPs may only vote on the Commission as a whole, rather than individual commissioner-designates.

(Note: The docile Fidesz, MSZP and MDF, as it was expected, supported the Commission. These MEPs are avoiding conflicts by all means, for back-patting they get from their bosses, as a reward are more important to them than the interest of their country).

So all Jobbik's partner parties in the EP voted for the Commission?
You do not have a split in your alliance then?
Maybe the real news will be when Jobbik actually votes *for* something?

The EU parliament is full of fat lazy good-for-nothings claiming expenses for doing bugger all.
Greece, Portugal, and Spain, just love the euro
don't they? Greece and Portugal are bankrupt and Spain is too but won't admit it. No jobs, no prospects, and continual bailouts that leave countries deeper and deeper in debt.
The EU is a sprawling monolith that has not worked.
EFTA = European Free Trade Association - that's all we needed - nothing more.
Now we have a lumbering and struggling dinosaur that over-rides national governments on the basis it knows better.
Germany is picking up most of the tabs for these failed countries. Do you think the Germans are happy?
Merkel is paying slimeballs to release private information on the understanding she will get more tax revenue from tax dodgers
hiding their wealth in Swiss banks

Banks and other finacial organizations received taxpayers money to bail them out. The
executives representing those institutions are still paying themselves huge bonuses and refusing to pay back government loans.

I don't even know why I went to see the boy toy of the Anglosphere: masochism I suppose... Just to get there and find parking near Millenáris Park(!) in the snowzilla(!) was a major pain that Orbán's Gringo inspired state of the nation speech -- the 12th I think if I am counting right -- certainly wasn't worth. The audience must have felt likewise since the first so so applause took some 12-13 minutes to materialize. There was some more polite applause later mostly in response to shopworn patriotic statements that would elicit an applause anywhere but there was no honest to God enthusiasm at any time as far as I could detect… I hated the speech myself because beyond some stilted old slogans it was cowardly and pandering. He bent over backwards to 'distance himself from 'extremism' meaning of course Jobbik. Now by an interesting coincidence the day after the speech Somogy Online published the results of a just completed survey in which a representative sample of 3,500 people were questioned over the web and telephone according to which 33% liked Jobbik, 25% liked the MSZP and only 16% liked the Fidesz! Astounding, yes? If I were a betting man I would bet on Orbán falling flat on his face together with his entourage again just like he did in 2002 when he kept 'distancing himself from MIÉP until MIÉP responded by boycotting him in the second round resulting in Fidesz's loss of the elections.

Cont.: I mean the common people lost. Fidesz hacks still sat in Parliament collecting their obscene salaries plus whatever corruption hoz a konyhára while ordinary people lost their jobs and homes in this so called 'depression.' Fidesz could secure a permanent two-thirds majority with Jobbik which is what Orbán rejects! I cannot help but wonder why? When the SZDSZ hooked up with the commies back when Antall and his morons were in power there was a huge outcry but the 'liberals'(read Israelites) couldn't care less since they obviously have a concept of what power is and how it works. Fidesz (read Orbán & Co.) obviously doesn't and no amount of pandering will make up for that. Despite Olga & Co.'s fantasies I have my own doubts about Jobbik but who else is there for Orbán's gang too ally itself with? He also mentioned 'law and order' but avoided the word Gypsy like the plague when the countryside, Fidesz's voter base, lives in constant fear of the Gypsies.

More: Theft, robbery and murder by marauding Gypsy gangs is a daily occurrence in the ever expanding Gypsy infested areas. Shouldn't Orbán have at least mentioned that? And the Gypsies are not only a huge threat to life and property that in next 5 to 10 years could easily turn into a Palestine type military issue -- just the other day in Sajóbábony we had a free for all with a 1,000 Gypsies armed to the teeth that nearly defeated the local and 3 neighboring counties unified police force. We have at least 300,000 combat ready Gypsies in Hungary. How long would it take in an era of internet and cell phones to mobilize them? Back to the financial holocaust we have a situation in Hungary today in which a work force of 3 million supports 1 million Gypsies, a huge, incredibly bloated bureaucracy, pensioners and everyone else it must support including the 'national debt' and blood sucking 'multinational' corporations which is simply unsustainable. S minderről a Fidesz mélyen kussol. Csoda, ha a cigányfertozött vidékeken a lakosság egyedül a Jobbikban látja a szövetségest?

"at least 300,000 combat ready Gypsies in Hungary!

Now Pavian has gone over thetop !

@ Pavaszem

Wait a minute - what is this comment supposed to mean: "Despite Olga & Co.'s fantasies " What now?

When I first heard about JOBBIK , I was really enthused (can't remember why ) and decided to read their website. It took less than 10 minutes to figure out that it would not be a party of my choice if I had the right to vote - In their defense, at least they made it clear what they stood for.

Months later, I am still at a loss why Orban is poised to win a 2/3rd majority. Obviously it's not you and your like minded friends that make me wonder.

No one on this website has ever had anything good to say about this guy. He seems to unite this website as the one person everyone agrees on.
Thus my only fantasy concerning him is to figure out what would posses the Hungarian voters to elect him again.

BTW, I had to read one of your paragraphs twice before I could believe you used the word "wonder" ( "Fidesz could secure a permanent two-thirds majority with Jobbik which is what Orbán rejects! I cannot help but wonder why? ")

The fact that the word "wonder" made it into your vocabulary was a shock. I am the one who wonders - you are the one who knows it all. Let's not get our station in life mixed up here.

I never claimed that I come close to understanding the dynamics of Hungarian politics but I do know the answer and I am not "wondering" So do you, so I believe you are just being coy. How adorable

3 interesting statements here that is easily checked false:
1) "just the other day in Sajóbábony"
Well that was in November 2009 and it was hardly "1,000 Gypsies armed to the teeth" and it had not been a big thing if not Jobbik sent in Magyar Garda to that area
Outsiders in Uniform are not always welcome, especially as they make a thing of hating a big minority, which in minor areas even can be the majority
-
2) "We have at least 300,000 combat ready Gypsies in Hungary"
Wow, do they wear Uniform also?
Some facts would be interesting, not just the normal racial slur
-
3) "1 million Gypsies"
Normally your lot claims Hungary has 2 million
Was it a rebate 'just the other day'?
The official figure is 200.000 that claimed in 2001 they belonged to the Roma ethnic minority in Hungary
Given the current Magyarization going on, the number will probably be lower in the 2011 Census

@Olga: "Despite Olga & Co.'s fantasies" http://tr.im/NUia You keep telling me how much I love Jobbik which is something I haven't been aware of. I do think though that everyone else is worse... (Does that make you happy?) Not that the current political process they too are part of will or even could provide solutions to any of our problems public or personal... "what would posses the Hungarian voters to elect him again" You actually think that the unwashed masses have the power to elect anyone… How touching. The last straw for me BTW was his refusal to deal with the BRICs. Only the Anglosphere is kosher for him -- because they are such good friends of ours no doubt.

@JointheClub: "Greece, Portugal, and Spain, just love the euro" But the UK doesn't. Neither did Germany btw and who could blame them: they had the strongest European currency but they were forced to adopt the Euro anyway. Why didn't the UK have to adopt it (Olga, watch this) I wonder? "The EU is a sprawling monolith that has not worked" No European state has for at least a century except Luxembourg and Switzerland, perhaps, although Switzerland is no longer what it used to be. "Do you think the Germans are happy?" They are not but Germans are very docile. You tell them what to think and they will think it.

@Viking: "that was in November 2009" Hey, you're right, what a huge difference! "Jobbik sent in Magyar Garda" Will you tell us why a shield squadron had to secure that town meeting and what the town meeting was about? "Outsiders in Uniform are not always welcome" Such as the police who are regularly ambushed and are afraid to leave their precincts any more? "Wow, do they wear Uniform also?" They don't but this is what they look like when they come at you http://www.youtube.com/v/N6HdB3fayvo These are the same lovely folk that later killed Marian Cozma

@Viking, continued: "Cozma died on 8 February 2009 after a stabbing attack that happened in a bar in Veszprém, Hungary. The members of KC Veszprém were celebrating the birth of the son of a player and the birthday of another, when they got into an altercation with a gang of 25-30 Romani people. Cozma was stabbed to death, while two other teammates suffered critical injuries. As of 18 February, five people have been arrested in connection with the events." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marian_Cozma If we get lucky you'll run into them too soon… ;) "The official figure is 200.000 that claimed in 2001" There is no official figure since it is illegal to count them. And we've had this discussion already but facts apparently don't bother you. You just keep repeating your lies like a broken record. What an asshole you are, Lars. "Given the current Magyarization" You mean creolization.

@slinky: "Now Pavian has gone over thetop" What is your point, moron? If any… Or can you just shake your fist and curse?

"The official figure is 200.000 that claimed in 2001" There is no official figure since it is illegal to count them

@Pávaszem. John Major went to Holland to that village with a name that sounded like Maastricht.
Not sure. He negotiated a good deal for the Brits. Fuck off Euro we dont want nor need it.
Merkel is more concerned with promoting Merkel than looking after the best interest of the German taxpayer. Portugal never had any money. The Portuguese could use bottle tops it would make little difference. The Greeks could use plates as a viable currency and that would deter them from smashing the things at every available opportunity.
The list of EU countries in trouble is growing.
Last night on the news they referred to the countires as PIIGS: Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Greece, Spain.
Euroland will stay in place at everybody's expense. The Euro is a bottle top.
Who forced the Germans to adopt the Euro?
I remember those strange bedfellows France and Germany chomping at the bit to get the brass
washers in use across Europe. Neither of those countries are going to blame anyone else. And neither are you Pavaasazalem. Even if Olga is looking and you've got your T-d-er out.
Spain must be wondering what has happened to them. Like everyone else they can blame the IMF, World Bank, Global Recession, Euro, European Union, Stock Market, Hedge Funds etc etc.
It won't make any difference. Fifty per cent of Spain's under-25s are unemployed.
Luxembourg? I thought it was a radio station!
The Swiss banks are reeling and I am glad. Let the whole rotten system collapse so we can start again.

@JointheClub: "John Major… negotiated a good deal for the Brits" Was it John Major really? Wouldn't pig's blood on a stick flying the Union Jack get the same deal from Germany or any defeated country such as little old us with Major on our side? Some people are just 'more equal,' yes? This http://www.counterpunch.org/hudson02152010.html is how it really works dude -- at least for us (CEU). Just replace 'Latvia' with 'Hungary' and you'll get our deal as well. As for the PIIGs they joined the Allies, let the Allies bail them out or Israel where zillions of everyone's (EU & US) money goes since 1947. (Doesn't that BTW bother you?) It's time they repaid their ginormous debt like we're paying _their loan sharks. "Luxembourg? I thought it was a radio station!" It's a lot more I assure you… "Let the whole rotten system collapse so we can start again." And just how would you like to 'start again?'

@Viking: WTF? Is this all you could come up with? How pitiful… Ok, your figure is 'official.' It is also bogus and deceptive. According to the Magyar language site of the rosszillatú Statisztikai Hivatal: 'Az 1992. évi LXIII. (adatvédelmi) törvény a személyes adatok egy részét, így a nemzeti, etnikai hovatartozásra vonatkozókat is a különleges adatok körébe sorolta, fokozott védelemben részesítette. E kérdésre – összhangban a nemzeti és etnikai kisebbségek jogairól szóló 1993. évi LXXVII. törvénnyel – a 2001. évi népszámlálás során nem volt kötelező a válaszadás.' i. e. people were warned that they don't have to answer any questions regarding their ethnicity. And who in his right mind will admit in Hungary today that he is a Gypsy? For a small subsidy 'the official Gypsies' perhaps. Will your bouncers say for example that they are Gypsies? No way! They will say they are Hungarian which BTW is true as well. Even your beloved Marxist sista admits that: "The official figures have little to do with reality… In Europe there are 8.5-10 million Gypsies. In Hungary today their estimated number is between 600,000 and 700,000…' http://➡.ws/༜췏 Or isn't she is always right? & also, since you didn't object to anything else, you agree that everything else I wrote above is right as rain, yes?

@Pav. Don't know. Got to feed the chickens. More interested in BKV and revelations aimed at politicians etc.
Major, Lamont, two ultra-lame ducks. The Consevative Party is/was parties within a Party.
The Monday Club, the 1922 bunch, pro Euro-heads
like Heath and Heseltine etc etc. (Yawn).
Got to get those chickens fed. I retract what I said about Major and the Maastricht Treaty.
Major was a provincial accountant who somehow got to be prime minister in the UK.
The Euro is a mistake that no-one will own up to.
No turning back. The future of Germany and France depend on it. So, unfortunately, it is here to stay.

people were warned that they don't have to answer any questions regarding their ethnicity. And who in his right mind will admit in Hungary today that he is a Gypsy?
Pávaszem at February 19, 2010 3:18 PM
---
So, they were "warned" about answering questions, or just 'informed about their right to state what they think'?
We come to the kernel of the problem:
* What is a Roma?
It is suppose to be the name on the official ethnic minority in Hungary, in difference from a number of national minorities
The same problem with the national minorities, who is a Schwab (German), or a Romanian, or a Slovak, if they feel, or feel pressured to be, Hungarian?
Who should decide, you, or me, or the people in question?
-
You still has not given any evidence on the 1 million Roma you claim exists in Hungary
I also know that 'official Hungary' regards the real number of Roma as 3 times higher than what the Census state, but who should decide who is Roma or Schwab?
-
When I speak with Schwäbish Hungarians, who are working for the German National Minority in Hungary, they complain that 'their people' state themselves officially as 'Hungarians', then especially among the elderly they still remember what happened after the last War
So it is not only 'Roma' that call themselves 'Hungarians'
-
Also to make people be proud of their minority heritage is low prio in today's Hungary, with this anti 'non-Hungarian' sentiment of today, exactly how the Minority Ombudsman stated a few weeks ago

Pávaszem said, inter alia, of Orbán’s speech: He bent over backwards to ‘distance himself’ from ‘extremism’ meaning of course Jobbik.

It is quite amazing how political usage has created a ‘meaning’ for the concept ‘extremism’ that has nothing to do with its lexicographic meaning. ‘Extremism’ in contemporary political patois is equi-meaning with ‘nationalism’. This is so despite the fact that nationalist parties express no extremes of sentiment nor engage in any extremes of action. This, surely, is Orwellian true-speak. The consistency with which journalistic true-speak and politicians attribute ‘extremism’ only to nationalist parties is astonishing. And all know to avoid the term in a context of genuine extremism: Reading accounts of the murder of Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in Dubai by Mossad, attached to which is the extraordinary fact that several of the Mossad hit squad were travelling on genuine British-manufactured passport documents, I found that the word ‘extremism’ was entirely absent. So, it seems, there is no extremism in assassination and in the theft of nations’ (the UK's, Ireland's, France's and Germany's) primary identity document.

Pávaszem, I join you in your bet. And I add to it my suspicion that Orbán would be happy to drop yet another opportunity to govern. He’s got things much easier as they stand.

@Visitor )))

Elle at February 20, 2010 9:03 PM

Of course the term 'extremism' are labelled on different things during history, what it would have to do with the Israel's Mossad alleged murder in Dubai goes below my understanding
Personally I would call the alleged murder for 'State Terrorism' or 'State Sponsored Terrorism'
Historically it is nothing new, I have personally met high PLO officials that later been murdered by Mossad and their partners in Spain
It is though a sign of the times that Israel will be allowed to do this, then otherwise it would stop the US (Marks's beloved country) from doing the same (which the US do by using drones instead of people)
This alleged murder is just one example on the need for Europe to break away from the US and Russia and start to speak directly with the Hamas of Gaza, but *no* political force in Hungary demands that
Maybe that would be too 'extreme'?

@Viking: " What is a Roma?" WHO is a Gypsy. They are people you know, not just your biological weapons… Anyway, you tell me, although we both know immediately when we meet one, don't we? "The same problem with… Schwab" It's very obviously NOT the same problem and you know it. Why are you always lying like this? Really. I am genuinely interested. Do you like to be despised? Are you a masochist who loves the well deserved abuse that rains down on him or are you just plain nuts? "Schwäbish… state themselves … 'Hungarians'" Because they are Hungarian, dickhead. We have always been multicultural until the Allies locked us into reservations like we were Injuns. "this anti 'non-Hungarian' sentiment" Well justified anti Allies sentiment. "Ombudsman" Another Swede invention. God help us...

Personally I can't believe that Mossad did kill that criminal (yes, you can call him that) - it seems a very amateur thing, not their usual modus operandi ( wait what pavian makes of this statement ...)

Maybe it was something in the line of Agatha Christie's Orient Express ...

"The Hungarian parliament should pass a hate speech law to prevent anti-Semitism from further spreading, Avigdor Lieberman, Israel's deputy prime minister and foreign minister,.."
What about a country like Israel that thinks it can do as it likes?

Here we have a part of the problem:
* 'We' (read White Folks) think 'we' *always* know who is 'Roma/Gypsy/Jew/AnyOtherWeDoNotLike'
In Hungary that is then:
* 'Roma/Gypsy': Poor people in the country-side, gangsters in the city
* 'Jews': Rich people (at least look like it)
* 'AnyOtherWeDoNotLike': The rest that do not subscribe to our Uber-Mench attitude
-
So what has this perception to do with who is *actually* 'Roma/Gypsy/Jew/AnyOtherWeDoNotLike'?
Good question, that Pav will not answer
My answer is that it is the normal racial profiling, even if very few of the above criteria makes into a distinct race in biological meaning (think more ethnic profiling)
I also think that Sophist is more on the track with his opinion that the question of Roma in Europe is more a question of belonging to social group/class
But that would of course destroy the nationalist's dream of a 'Clean Country', where 'Country' is some imaginary entity that never ever existed like how the nationalists claim it should do
If Hungary never ever worked like a single ethnic and cultural country (even Pav remembers that Hungary has always been multi-cultural/ethnic), why should it work like that in the future?
The essence of a multi-cultural/ethnic country is constant change and merge

@Viking: "racial profiling" One of the things I just love about you people is when you first deny the existence of race and then go ahead and whine about racial this or racist that… Nuts. "Sophist is more on the track with his opinion that the question of Roma in Europe is more a question of belonging to social group/class" Yes and no. Gypsies are basically Creoles like the American coloreds, Levantines, Palestinians, etc. some of whom are so light skinned they pass for white (think quadroons and octaroons or the 1959 film Sapphire) And, even if they don't pass for white Hungarians are pretty colorblind when it comes to Gypsy-Jew Mischlings like Orbán or Deutsch if they are well educated, civilized and integrated into society. As for the less light skinned, well, they are extremely different... Have you heard the slang term 'dögös' for Gyppos? which alludes to their ability to eat rotting, diseased animal flesh and live whereas we would die a horrible death if we could even manage to swallow that rotten, stinking meat. Yessir, they’ve been raiding our 'dögkutak' (carcass wells) for centuries and we just can't to stop them... As far as I know only Eskimos can also eat rotten meat and survive.

@Viking, more: "Good question, that Pav will not answer" You sound like a broken record again. I answer questions, you don't. Or doesn't that fact disturb you either? "The essence of a multi-cultural/ethnic country is constant change and merge" Within certain limits.

Well, if you guys move out to your KKK-land, with an Arpad-striped Confederate Flag, that would take away the limits

@Wiking: "I am a Blue-eyed Arian," Come on Lapp we have your picture http://bit.ly/6jMgdE you don't have no blue eyes! In a way you're blond though, not physically, but blond as hell for sure. "I never denied that race exists," So, how do you define it? "(and probably not your taxes either)" :-))) WHAT? "Not even A Hitler could do that" Could do what? And when did he say that blond people are superior anyway? I tell you when: NEVER. "not only is Fidesz full of Jews and liberals, the Top Dog is a Roma also" Well, the elitist/chauvinist SZDSZ Nazis will certainly not allow a Creole like Orbán or Deutsch into their inner circle. They won't even sit down with their own Parade-goyim at the same table for Pete's sake. Have you read the Tellér paper? http://bit.ly/9HlQof "Maybe you 'Tiszta Magyars' should emigrate to Juden/Zigeuner-Frei part…" Contaminated moonshine… Why don't you just dump it and cook up another batch before you go blind? "Me: "they eat rotten meat…" That really confuses you, doesn't it? You: "But then make them into Aboriginals…" We are the Aborigines clown, they only came here 500 years ago. "Well, if you guys move out to your KKK-land, with an Arpad-striped Confederate Flag, that would take away the limits" Why don't you stop and think for a few minutes sometimes before you 'comment' you asshole? What you do now is just disgust everyone. Which is what you probably want, ja?
