The ruling Socialist Party will initiate a parliamentary discussion on Hungary’s real situation in February, a senior party official told reporters on Monday.
“We should respond to the accusations that “Hungary has collapsed and everything has gone wrong over the past eight years”, parliamentary group director Jozsef Tobias said.
In response, main opposition Fidesz deputy spokesman Andras Cser-Palkovics said Hungarians were well aware of the country’s real situation, they suffer from the austerity measures, price rises, higher taxes, growing crime and the “political corruption of the Socialists”.
The Fidesz group will decide on participation once the Socialists have submitted an official proposal, he said.
The conservative Democratic Forum said it would be willing to take part in the debate and eager to hear what the parties would do for job creation, quality public services and fair taxation, spokesman Szabolcs Kerek-Barczy said.
The Christian Democrats said the government had had eight years to speak about Hungary’s real situation.
“We have nothing to talk about” with a party whose former PM openly admitted building a previous election campaign on lies, spokeswoman Zsuzsa Halasz said.

Sometimes even Fidesz people say things that I wholeheartedly agree with. When Senkihazy, the Communist politburo’s PM candidate challenged Orban to a debate, a Fidesz spokesperson responded that only idiots debate known and confirmed liars.
These “people” are born liars and can run circles around anyone with their lies. You do not sit down with them in a “debate”. You tell the people what these people are and talk about the damage they did to the country.
If they want to lie, they should do it on their own time.
Debate? what for? The only debate we should be discussing is which tree to hang them from
but on a serious note, i do also sort of agree with the spokesperson from Fidesz but debates do put each “leader’s” public speaking abilities to the ultimate test and determines if he can respond to accusations made against him/her in a quick and timely manner. If he/she can do it, it puts people’s faith in that individual as well as trust (which is usually abused).
“We should respond to the accusations that “Hungary has collapsed and everything has gone wrong over the past eight years”
Accusations? You meant to say “We should respond to the FACT that “Hungary has collapsed and everything has gone wrong over the past eight years”
“The Christian Democrats said the government had had eight years to speak about Hungary’s real situation.”
What to do in 8 years? Hmmmmm… I think we should list ways of how to kill time for 8 years like:
-Going on holiday
-Watching t.v.
-Playing Games
-Do a part time job
-Help the hungarian people (oh wait… we need a proper leader to that, nevermind)
@Mark
People dont lie, they just tell interesting stories that have a twist
So i say rather have a HARD TALK (bbc interview show, find out more on their website) show by an independent person (that must be objective at all times) with tough questions that would be asked by their oppenents. I feel its more effective, gets the point across etc AND before i forget , allow people to phone in
