Hungarian NGOs signal support for draft law on climate change

Over 430 NGOs have signed a statement in support of a bill on climate protection drafted by the National Council of Sustainable Development (NFFT). A copy of the document was presented to leading politicians for environmental issues in front of Parliament on Tuesday.

NFFT adopted the bill seeking to provide a comprehensive framework designed not only to control emissions but promote energy saving, energy efficiency and renewable energy sources on January 21 and submitted it to parliament on January 29.

Parliamentary Speaker Bela Katona, who is also the president of NFFT, welcomed the united civil support to the bill in a statement.

Katalin Szili, NFFT’s honorary president, expressed hope that parliament would discuss the draft on February 15 and hold a final vote on it already on February 22.
