Fidesz candidates must not utter their private opinions during the campaign, party leader Viktor Orbán said Monday at a closed meeting with party MPs.
He also spoke about the future nationalist government and the importance of shared national matters.
Fidesz politicians should convey messages consistent with the party’s policy and communication strategy in public appearances ahead of the elections, Orbán added.
He stressed that party representatives should emphasise general aims without getting bogged down in details, as that could leave them open to attack. Anyone who states his or her own opinion, must make it clear that it is their private opinion, he said.
Fidesz deputy chairman Mihály Varga’s recent statement on possible changes to the pension system has caused an avalanche as pollster Szonda Ipsos said Fidesz lost close to 250,000 supporters in one month, Népszabadság writes.
Orbán also stressed that votes cast for right-wing radicals will not result in a change of government, therefore voters must not be divided.
