Hungarians’ inclination to go to the polls at the parliamentary elections this spring is on the increase and three parties will certainly get into parliament, pollster Forsense told MTI on Monday.
The number of voters who have a party preference increased slightly to 56 percent in February and around 50 percent said they would certainly cast a vote in the April elections, Forsense said quoting polls prepared between February 3 and 11.
Main opposition Fidesz continues to hold a significant lead in the polls, with 59 percent of decided voters supporting the party, as against 18 percent supporting the governing Socialists and 14 percent the radical nationalist Jobbik.
The green party LMP stayed at 5 percent, the threshold for entry into parliament. After strengthening in January, conservative MDF lost from its support in February and stood at 2 percent. The opposition liberal Free Democrats are in a marginal position, according to the poll.
Some 3 percent of people polled said they would make a choice on election day only and 5 percent said they would pick a party a week or two before the elections.
The expected participation rate was at a similar level in early February as four years ago before the elections. If the electorate’s activity increases in the same way as four years ago, then turnout is expected to be 65-70 percent, Forsense said.
Some 38 percent of people interviewed said opposition leader Viktor Orban would be most suitable for prime minister, followed by 16 percent opting for Democratic Forum candidate Lajos Bokros. Socialist candidate Attila Mesterhazy is the choice for 8 percent of respondents and Jobbik candidate Gabor Vona for 5 percent, the poll said.
“The green party LMP stayed at 5 percent, the threshold for entry into parliament.”
So there might still be a surprise coming …
Wolfi@yes,but only from Jobbik!
Nobody from LMP responded about my question re one of the Pécs candidates and misappropiation of school funds-no surprise there
Isn’t that a prerequisite to enter into Hungarian Politics…must be corrupt on some level? All levels? Corrupt to the core? Pick your poison.
But Ricsi, did you ask your question anywhere else other than in the comment threads here? Remember this is a blog site read by probably slightly less than fifty people, half of whom don’t even have voting rights in Hungary. It’s not exactly the best place to actually get a straight reply from a political spokesperson.
Why not email Erik or Zoltan with the details of this woman’s misconduct. Give them the info they need to do some investigative journalism stuff, I’m sure they would relish the opportunity; especially Erik, we all know he loves nothing better than putting the boot into airy-fairy greeny pinko lefty hippy types, no matter whether they are American, Canadian, Hungarian etc etc
Pip@My original question was addressed to an LMP guy who posted a comment here, much to Farkas Laszlos great delight. Needless to say he never came back but he is undoubtedly reading these pages!
The local people are asking the relavent question as we speak. As for this site,I know it is very insignificant, but the LMP guy took it upon himself to post here,I merely asked him a question and he proved my point-’Politics with a Difference’total bullshit.
oh yes “undoubtedly reading these pages”! Self
important are we richard.
@PiP-squeak.
“airy-fairy greeny pinko lefty hippy types, no matter whether they are …”
