President Sólyom, opposition’s Orbán lead poll

President Laszlo Solyom was given 47 points out of a maximum of 100 by respondents in a popularity survey by pollster Szonda Ipsos published in Tuesday’s Nepszabadsag daily.

Viktor Orban, head of the main opposition Fidesz, garnered 44 points – one point down from the previous month – securing him the second position in the list.

Orban is followed by Tibor Navracsics, Fidesz’s parliamentary group leader, with 37 points, up two.

Attila Mesterhazy, the ruling Socialist Party’s prime minister candidate, radical nationalist leader Gabor Vona and Prime Minister Gordon Bajnai were given 30 points each.

At the bottom of the list of the 22 politicians are Budapest Mayor Gabor Demszky (20 points) and former head of the small liberal Free Democrats Janos Koka (18).
