Former central bank president Zsigmond Jarai, finance minister of Viktor Orban’s government, said on Tuesday that he would be prepared to take a post in a Fidesz-led government.
“Viktor Orban has made it clear that I should work and I am prepared to meet his request in any position,” Jarai told MTI in Miskolc, N Hungary.
Addressing a session of cluster managers, Jarai said that the Hungarian economy should be placed on an entirely new course.
He added, however, that keeping the balance of the budget as much as possible was a priority. Nevertheless, a major misapprehension is that keeping the budget in balance would be a panacea, solving all problems, he said.
Jarai led the finance portfolio from 1998 to 2001 and then the National Bank of Hungary until 2007.
