Hungary stated to support the Czech Republic in its visa dispute with Canada, Hungarian Justice Minister Imre Forgacs told MTI on Thursday in Brussels, where he was attending a conference of EU interior and justice ministers.
After the meeting, Czech Interior Minister Martin Pecina said that only Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and Spain, the latter being the current EU president, expressed to support the Czech Republic in its efforts to have visas lifted. Canada announced the visa requirement last summer citing an increasing number of asylum applications, submitted mostly by Roma.
Forgacs said that the visa situation was “untenable” and added that intensified talks were underway between Canada and the European Commission on the issue.
