Poll reveals Jobbik scores better among young people than Socialists

For the first time, radical nationalist party Jobbik is more popular among young Hungarians than the Socialist party is, the outcome of a poll by Forsense showed on Thursday.

In the 18-24 age group, Jobbik is twice as popular as the ruling party, the poll found. Jobbik’s support in this category – especially among men – has shot up since last year and it is generally much stronger: whereas last year just 1 percent of the whole sample backed Jobbik in February 2009, now 8 percent do.

Fidesz, the conservative opposition party expected to win the April elections, is also a strong contender for the youth vote, said Forsense.

The Socialists, by contrast, have their best support segment among pensioners, it added.

How could it be that young Hungarians are for Jobbik while the old hardened Communists are for MSZP? Sorry to be one to bring it you folks but those old farts are fast departing to that wonderful land of workers’ paradise. MSZP will have only the village idiots left to support them and not even their h-wives because they will also support Jobbik.

  3. Viking says:

That young people tend to support more ‘radical’ movements is nothing new in history
It is part of growing up to rebel against the ‘current order’, regardless it is in the family or society
If that rebellion is ‘left-’ or ‘right-’ oriented is more a question of timing, these things tend to go in waves and you could not exactly accuse young Hungarians to have an overwhelmingly ‘left’ bias today
If there would be a poll on where school-children (under 18) would cast their vote, Jobbik could probably win the absolute majority today

For Mark to be happy his fellow Hungarians drop dead is just how Mark is, no sympathy for his fellow Hungarians, as Hungarians, just as Illinois Nazi
But I suppose Mark is not a real Hungarian, because the Hungarians I know, would never put it like that, not even my friends that will vote for Jobbik

The Young flock towreds Jobbik because they have deliberatlt Under-Educated and misled with regard the the Truths of Hungarys less than impressive recent History.

  5. JOBBIKOS says:

Young people are moving to Jobbik because they offer the best vision for the nation’s future. As the socialists’ rusted-on pensioner core dies off, Jobbik will realistically be in government within two decades.
Older Hungarians, being bitter and brainwashed by the socialist system, tend not care about their country’s future. But young people are demanding something better than the current suicidal, corrupt regime. The socialists’ open hatred for Hungary, its people and its ancient culture is something that particularily victimises young people with hopes and dreams for a better future.
    Good luck to Jobbik!!!

You would never know it from the “neo-liberal” media but Jobbik attendance surpassed even Fidesz’s attendance.
The Communists, who lie every time they say they are Socialists attracted just a small number of very old die-hard followers. They are beyond pitiful.

    1) Did not the promise from yesterday that Jobbik will rule from April 12?
No need to wait for 2014 or even 2018?
    -
    2) How many Jobbik-supporters can you put in one square-meter?
The videos from the meeting are available on different web-site, plus what was shown on the TV
On the TV they deliberately did not show the heavy equipped Magyar Garda, both in black dress (no white or red there) and in military fatigue that can be seen on

In difference to the Police, these guys have no approved training, no public supervision and are not known by the authorities
When these guys roam the Hungarian country-side, as I am sure they already do, they will soon be regarded as just another gangster-band you have to pay fees too
These guys symbolise the soul of the Jobbik-movement in its naked threat of violence

  11. Paul says:

when the state fails in its duty to protect its citizens from crime, the citizens are forced to devise ways to protect themselves. hence the perceived need for the garda, which will persist until police restore the rule of law in rural hungary, and cease to be merely a private security force for the corrupt MSZP.
none of this is too difficult to figure out if you just use your brain.

  12. olga says:

    @ Paul
Please name some countries in the Western world that
    a) Has no crime.
    b) That allows MG type of policing
I can’t think of a Western state that fulfilled its duty and protects its citizens from crime but as soon as you post said state I might think of moving there.

  13. justasking says:

    @ Olga;
Thats not Paul is saying, besides he does have a point.

  14. justasking says:

    sorry forgot the “what”
That’s not what Paul is saying.

  15. Paul says:

    Olga,
you have completely ignored what i actually said, instead you have devised and answers your own questions. did i say any country has no crime? no. did i say that the garda is the preferred method of policing? no.
go to borsod olga, and ask people if they are feel safe there. ask them if they think the police care enough about them to protect them against crime. then ask yourself what would any reasonable people do in their situation. i think forming a citizens guard is about the best solution, pending the return of an honest, strong police force, or the rural equivalent suggested by jobbik.

Will not tell you becauase we do not want you to move there.

  17. olga says:

    @ Paul
I understand you are talking about a crime ridden area – very scary but no different from other Western countries.
I don’t know what the answer is but vigilantes are not it.
What are the qualifications to be part of the MG?
I am sorry to be dragging Toronto into this, but our police force goes through rigorous training and psychological tests – yet nothing is perfect
We still get police convicted of brutality and the Court dismissing cases because they don’t believe the cops’ evidence. There are no safeguards that are 100 percent.
So what are the safeguards and qualifications for the MG?
BTW, thanks for not attacking me. I do see your point regarding “the citizens are forced to devise ways to protect themselves. ”
If people advocate for a bigger budget for the police and a higher salary so it would attract better qualified people that would make sense.
Having the presence of what Cinaed referred to as Hell’s Angels are not what’s going to help Hungary move forward. Democratic societies don’t have MG type legal presence. Or do you know something I don’t?
BTW, prosecuting criminals and keeping them in jail costs money – so what’s wrong with spending the money on proper policing?

In my usual practice of trying to procrastinate my own work out of existence, I was trolling through databases looking for academic articles about crime in Hungary and came across what turned out to be a fascinating piece by K.Morvai.In it she criticises the ‘traditional’ Hungarian attitude towards gender inequalities under the law.Given her politics, I was really surprised to see her positive references to gender policy during the communist years.I have no intention of quoting her out of context, so if anyone wants to see it, I’m happy to get it to you somehow. Here are some of the highlights for me:
-Demonstrating the sexist attitudes of Hungarian men she quotes colleagues to whom she had objected against sexist statements:”Our culture is different. We dont want those alien standards to be imposed on us.Our nation is lively, funny and sexy. We enjoy this sort of thing. What Western women take as harassment Hungarian women take as courtship’. (MEN WERE SAYING THIS, NOT MORVAI.SHE WAS QUOTING THEM TO POINT OUT HOW WRONG THE ATTITUDE IS)
-Criticising the refusal to question culture, she states:”Those whose lives are defined as part of the culture have hardly any influence on defining
‘culture’. Because of the central role of ‘culture’ in national integrity and identity,
challenging the justification of ‘culture’ equals disloyalty.”
    (cont)

  19. Cináed says:

“Ever since the beginning of state socialism in Hungary (after the Second World War), there has been a certain nostalgia in the air about the good old times when our nation was able to live according to ‘our own culture’. It is unclear what
exactly that culture was, who defined it and whose culture we are really talking about. It appears that references to it are made rather arbitrarily depending on who is talking on behalf of the ‘nation’.”
    -
“Women are typically attacked by an intimate partner in their own homes; men are typically attacked by strangers or drinking partners in bars.”
    -
In the final section, she analyses comparative cases where women are blamed for their part in crimes against them, while men are found to be innocent victims. Morvai uses a lot of critical and feminist theory and makes an interesting comparison between the ‘sacred’ culture, and the negatively perceived socialist (pre 1989) era and other EU countries’ attitudes to gender equity. It has made me think more positively about Morvai, and makes me question just who the extreme posters on this site actually think they represent. That is, unless Morvai has taken a real U-turn on her previous women’s rights work.

    Paul at March 16, 2010 3:14 PM

But the Magyar Garda is *not* “a citizens guard”
‘Neighbourhood Watch’ type of programs (‘PolgarÖr’) exists with State contributions to apply for
This is as close to a ‘Citizens Guard’ you can come, but Jobbik rejects this, then Magyar Garda is *Jobbik’s* Private Army and *only* listens to Jobbik’s orders
    .
Magyar Garda today is more the German Nazi (NSDAP) SA (Sturm Abteilung), than any Neighbourhood Watch
    .
Magyar Garda will be the similarity to the German Nazi (NSDAP) SS (Schutz Staffel) if this Zázrivecz Gábor (aka Vona) will have his day

Compare the original Magyar Garda, in their Black-and-White uniforms, with the latest design, that can be found here
