Hungary’s main opposition Fidesz and its election ally Christian Democrats are set to introduce measures to appeal to families and encourage childbirth, the alliance’s welfare spokesman told the press on Saturday.
Citing data from a recent government paper, Miklos Soltesz said the ruling Socialists have proven that, under their governance, “families do not count at all”. He cited Socialist plans to further reduce the time that parents are eligible for childcare benefits and added that placement in nurseries is still difficult, though the Socialists had promised better state-run childcare.
Fidesz, slated to win the April elections, pledges to introduce subsidised home loans for young couples and family tax benefits, Soltesz said.
“We want to implement policies which will make child-rearing a value again,” he said.
Zsolt Torok, a Socialist MP, said in response that Fidesz’s programme was “empty and false”. He added that while family benefits had stagnated during the Fidesz-led government in 1998-2002, the Socialist governments continually increased those benefits and provided nursery care for more and more infants since 2003.

This is all great talk, but this shouldnt be the main focus of a leading party in hungary, the main focus should be to push the economy up to europen stanards instead of promising families benefits includeing child care, family tax benefits, homeloan support when the country is struggling to maintain its enromous debt to the euro union the only party i can see doing such a job would be jobbik!!

We have no problem believing you see that, but *how* would Jobbik do that
And do not refer to their Manifest, then it has no short-term solutions, just build business with East instead of the West
-
What has Jobbik going for them that would be better than a Fidesz-government when discussing with the EU/IMF?
‘We will not pay!’ or what?
Well, good luck on that approach
Hungary gets more money from the EU than what it pays and Hungary will still need to loan money on the International market (it is a normal thing that States do this, short-term and long-term)
Refusing to pay, will just make it harder to get any new loans to temporary finance different things
So, in the end the normal Hungarian need to pay up more under a Jobbik Government, waiting for the Great East to save Hungary
Hungarians doing something on their own is obviously not in the cards
Attila. I don’t know if Jobbik can rid this country of the “commie” way of doing things – but they can at least try.
The gravy train for this country has come to a grinding halt.
Orban Viktor is the lesser of two evils but he hasn’t got a clue on how to get Hungary into the 21st century.
The same old promises of handouts to get votes. Pathetic….
