Hungary’s radical nationalist Jobbik party said on Friday it would focus on fighting “subsistance crime, also known as gypsy crime” if elected to power in the April elections.
Jobbik leader Gabor Vona presented Janos Volner, the spokesman for the banned paramilitary Hungarian Guard, as the candidate to head a new law enforcement ministry, which the party has envisaged in the next government.
Jobbik promotes order and will be determined to persecute all forms of criminal activity, including crimes by politicians or economic crimes, Vona said.
Jobbik announced in February that it is setting up a shadow government. Its members, in addition to Volner, are Marton Gyongyosi for foreign policy, Tamas Gaudi-Nagy for Justice, Lajos Posze for the Prime Minister’s Office and Geza Gyenes for health care.
Polls indicate Jobbik as one of three parties to get seats in Parliament after the general elections in April.

The expression “gypsy crime” means in Hungary that only Roma commits this type of crimes and *all* Roma are criminals in waiting
It removes the distinction between the individual criminal and the minority he/she belongs to
It is seeing a minority as a monolithic collection, unable to change and not consisting of individuals
It also, in Hungary, implies that Roma are genetically disposed to perform a certain type of crimes (but they normally get blamed for *all* crimes, so it is a bit stupid argument)

It is my surprise that the Police were not asked to help these Roma come into the open Jobbik-meeting, then excluding any one on racial grounds even is against Hungarian law

I am curious to see if some of the Jobbik parliamentarians will show up in the Hungarian Parliament wearing their Garda uniforms. If they do, Hungary will be subject to intense international ridicule.

It is the same problem as September 2006, it is official election time and the Police do not dare to do anything that could be seen as ‘limiting’ to any political party
.
Jobbik was quick to deny the charges, then if substantiated could lead to sanctions from the independent Election Commission
.
Anyway it would be hard to prove anything in these situations and Jobbik can always blame over-zealous Garda-members and promise to either better inform what should be allowed or not, or just say it is not formally a Jobbik-problem
