LMP hovers at parliament’s doorstep

Five percent of decided voters support Hungarian green party Politics Can Be Different, just enough to get the party into parliament, pollster Forsense said on Tuesday.

Among all voters, Politics Can Be Different has 3 percent support, the poll found. The party was almost unknown in early 2009 but its convincing result in the European Parliamentary elections helped to boost the party’s popularity. Between June and November 2009, support for the party was around 2 percent. In early 2010, it overtook the liberal Free Democrats and drew alongside the conservative Democratic Forum, Forsense said.

Among decided voters, Politics Can Be Different is currently the fourth most popular party in Hungary.

The party has a strong youth vote. Many Budapest residents and city dwellers support it, and a high proportion of women also like it. Many of its supporters were below the voting age at the 2006 parliamentary elections or they voted for the Socialists.

  1. The young MSZP supporters are taking a gamble voting for LMP. If they fool enough people thinking that they are different from MSZP, they could get 5% and add to MSZP’s voice in the Parliament. The flip side is that if they get less than 5%, the Communist MSZP will have fewer votes and still no LMP sidekick.
    Ever since Jobbik kicked SZDSZ off the table, they are trying to change their skin. Some are headed for MDF, others for LMP and yet others to MSZP or Fidesz. They may not have any popular support but their leaders will continue to disrupt Hungarian politics until every last one of them is history.
    While SZDSZ shot itself in the head by choosing to base it EP campaign on attacks against Jobbik and deservedly paid the price for it, MDF is more of a thorn in Fidesz side. Ibolyka David have been making out with Gyurcsany while pretending to be independent. She and her diminishing party have been targeted by Fidesz. It is the Fidesz media that makes sure that her criminal activities are not forgotten. She and Herényi can count on the police investigators wanting to talk to them as soon as they lose their immunity.
    Before any LMP or MDF supporters get too optimistic, they do not have the required slips for them to be on enough ballots for serious talk of about 5% for them.
    Imagine Ibolyka, Herényi and Kolompár in the same cell :-)

    The Politics Can Be Different is the very bottom of Hungarian politics, already his name is lie: the politics may never be other, than that

    @Viking:
    Yes, that was a neat little surprise – and it goes to show that there is still hope for Hungarian politics …
    The mor Jobbik and the resident jobos rant about LMP, the more I’m confident they could develop into a viable alternative …
    PS: Wrote this just to push the spam down – and to drive the jobos into another state of mind
