OSCE freedom of the press representative Dunja Mijatovic yesterday urged the halting of the government media package scheduled for a vote in Parliament next week.
The proposals are extremely worrying as regards freedom of the press in Hungary, Mijatovic said in a letter sent to Foreign Minister János Martonyi. The bill should be amended and consultations held with those active in the profession, she added.
Annamária Szalai, the Fidesz official delegated to the National Radio and Television Board, dismissed as “not serious” the statement issued by the Federation of European Journalists and the International Federation Journalists that criticised the Fidesz media package.
“We have seen what went on in the past 18 months and how public funds recklessly flowed unchecked through the public media. We shall have to restore a public service media that has been disrupted on every level and this is the most urgent argument for submitting the media package,” she said.
What is OSCE?
What is Google?
Dunja Mijatovic is full of it. Currently there is very limited free press in Hungary because most of the media is in Jewish hands. Many of these Jews in the Hungarian media played a major role in suppression of freedom of expression for the past 65 years.
It is time to have some Hungarian faces on Hungarian state TV channels…
Let’s hear it from Dunja Mijatovic on Nazi Israel’s supression of media at gunpoint!
“Currently there is very limited free press in Hungary because most of the media is in Jewish hands. Many of these Jews in the Hungarian media played a major role in suppression of freedom of expression for the past 65 years.” LYNCH just wrote …
No comments on that ?
Israel and media freedom?
You’re free to call Israel’s atrocities “self defense”.
That’s about it.

And how is ‘Zsidesz’ going to change that?
.
NB! ‘Zsidesz’ is what Jobbik calls Fidesz, with a play on the Hungarian word for Jew (Zsido)
@ Viking,
“How is “Zsidesz” going to change that?”
Simply…they won’t. They don’t dare bite the hand that feeds them.
Hey, how are you by the way? Drop a line.
This proves that Zsidesz is no better then MSZP Commies, Just that the new commies are hiding behind a veil of Nationalism which is an even more rotten orange scenario. I wonder how many droids there going to send to this Sundays peaceful demonstrations at Deak ter for the Magyar Nemzeti Gárda one year commerations of the violence and arrests towards peace demonstrators.
I wonder when Law will find out that Jobbik are also “new commies hiding behind a veil of Nationalism which is an even more rotten orange scenario”
Paranoia must be a lot of fun …
Wolfi. It is strange that Vándorló expressed the same sentiments as you about Jobbik a little while ago.
It is a shame that many decent people attached themselves to Jobbik for a brighter future in Hungary. I have seen very little evidence that Jobbik are any better than the other two pathetic
parties, Fidesz and the MSZP.
It is a shambolic mess here at the moment and the legacy of 20 years of mismanagement is beginning to tell. Orban Viktor is a complete fool and should stand down now. Fidesz should appoint a more competent individual to lead them and this country.
It can’t/won’t happen. Oh Dear, Dear, Dear, “Itt az idö” for the circus to leave town…
@Law at July 1, 2010 9:39 AM
You are very correct Law. Contrary to Orban’s promise to make the country safe two weeks after Fidesz takes over, crime is still as rampant and still mostly gypsy crime as before.
What does Orban do? He goes on a tirade against the non-existent Magyar Garda thinking that it will help explain his impotence.
I will never be able to erase the disgusting picture of Orban kissing the hand of that dirty Communist Lendvai. It was a symbol of his servile acceptance of Communists as his masters, even after that much heralded 2/3 victory.
Best of luck to the Magyar Nemzeti Gárda!
Here’s something from the “leftist press” in London:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-1291015/Ken-Clarkes-prison-policy-reveals-monumental-arrogance.html
That minister really got them foaming at the mouth …
“The prison population rose from some 60,000 to 85,000 between 1997 and 2010. The BBC mindlessly repeats that we have the highest prison population in Europe, but that’s not true in relation to crimes committed.
France, Italy, Portugal, Ireland and Spain lock up more people per 1,000 recorded crimes. Unfortunately, we just have more crime.”
Maybe that’s because of bob …
