Green party Politics Can Be Different has asked Parliamentary Speaker Pal Schmitt to sign the laws enacted on the last day of Parliament's special summer session so as to enable outgoing President Laszlo Solyom to examine whether they comply with the constitution.
Andras Schiffer, the party's parliamentary leader, said he wanted to dispel press rumours that the parliamentary majority might be delaying the final vote on the law on media supervision so as to prevent Solyom from submitting it to the Constitutional Court for a preliminary review.
Although House rules make it possible for the outgoing speaker to send laws to the incoming president - in this case, Schmitt would be sending the law to himself - "this step would ... run counter to the spirit of the Constitution," Schiffer said.
Schmitt is scheduled to succeed Solyom as head of state on August 6.
Parliament's communication office informed MTI earlier on Wednesday that Deputy Speaker Sandor Lezsak would sign the law on August 5 and send it incoming president Schmitt afterwards.

If it would not be so important it would actually be rather hilarious...
