The opposition Socialist party has called on Hungary’s democratic political forces to distance themselves from a proposal by a radical nationalist Jobbik party politician to “banish Roma criminals” from the northeastern city of Miskolc.
Istvan Nyako, a spokesman for the Socialists, said on Wednesday that the party expected prime minister Viktor Orban to speak out in protection of Hungary’s Roma minority of about half a million people and reject extremism.
He said that in a society governed by rule of law, the place of recidivist criminals was in prison.
Nyako spoke in response to calls by Jobbik’s candidate for Miskolc mayor, Marton Szegedi, to banish repeat offenders of a Roma origin to a outside city limits, put them in a camp and strip them of their citizenship. Szegedi said he was citing examples from Slovakia, France, Italy and Finland for his proposal.
Nyako said that the remarks were reminiscent of the national socialist agenda for concentration camps 65 years ago.

How is this going to stop them from stealing,mugging,raping,pillaging etc.. because putting them outside the city wont make a major difference when they can walk right back in again.

well, seeing as the world is such a terrible place filled with awful, degenerate, atavistic sub-humans, perhaps the easiest thing to do would be to build a big wall around Hungary and just fence it off. It could be an island of peace and happiness, where everyone lives for the community and for the greater good of the people. The worker would be the highest ideal. There would be no classes or greed because everyone would be the same. After a time, even clothing would become uniform.

Márton Szegedi Jobbik mayoral candidate for the city of Miskolc said parts of the city are unsafe for residents at any time of the day because of high level of gypsy crime. Home invasions, theft, violence, robbery and murder are everyday occurrences in many parts of the city. Most of the crimes have been committed against older people unable to defend themselves said Szegedi.
In a news conference, he proposed a radical solution to the problem by asking authorities to allow the deportation of repeat offenders from the city. Citing French, Italian and Finnish examples he proposed setting up a project that would allow relocating repeat offenders in designated camps outside populated areas.
Several European governments have already been working on creative ideas that might lead to solving the problem of gypsy crime for good. The French government, for instance called gypsy crime a national security issue. In Italy, the military and the Italian National Guard have been used several times against gypsy criminals in many Italian cities. In Finland several cities simply banning gypsy criminals from entering certain parts of the municipality. Hungary should draw on these experiences and develop a permanent solution to gypsy crime.
Like the Socialists, Fidesz too misled the population by promising quick solutions to the public said Szegedi; but it is clear that police don’t have the resources to handle the issues relating to gypsy crime.
He is asking parliament to consider introducing measures that would allow taking away the citizenship of repeat offenders as part of an overall solution to the problem of gypsy crime.

Went to a funeral yesterday – my husband’s 89 year old Aunt died and the Minister mentioned what a good person she was, always helping those less fortunate than her.
He was reading from the Bible and said something about loving your neighbour as you love yourself and that there was no other commandment greater than that – is this really in the Bible or was he making it up? – I am not sure if Presbyterians can be trusted.
If the passage was genuine and since you are in regular contact with God – can you find out what happens when the neighbour belongs to a race, nationality or religion that does not appear on one’s “Love” list?
I would also ask LHVJ but he is tied up with urgent matters on the Gaza strip so I don’t want to interrupt him.

To ‘banish people and strip them of their citizenship’ will not solve anything. If anything, it will make the lives of Gypsy’s who do work hard, who do live a life free of crime etc harder. This is promoting isolation of a group of people.
It is also unfair to ignore people’s legitimate concerns about not feeling safe within their homes and community. This to me, also promotes people to feel isolated.
What to do? I personally believe that a mandatory 1-2 year Army Service be introduced/reintroduced to every member citizen when they reach 18. Again my opinion, today’s youth lack discipline, appreciation and respect not only for their fellow man; but, for themselves as well.
Instead of banishing repeat criminals like this article purposes…can they not be forced to pay their debt to society in a manner of Peace Keeping Missions or something along that line?
Introduce a punishment that will scare the living shit out of a person.
I would think twice about committing a crime if I knew that if I were to get caught…they would be shipping my ass to Africa or Afghanistan etc.
Make it a blanket Law that would effect everybody equally.
Whether something like I said can be doable I don’t know. It’s an idea though/possible solution to fixing this problem. Something that I haven’t seen anybody else come up with.

BTW, about the funeral we went to – 80% of the time was spent on the Aunt’s life from the time she was born in a small Ontario farming community.
About 6 months ago, we went to a Catholic funeral – 80% of the time was spent making me and the rest of the Congregation feel bad about our sins.I hardly had time to think about the deceased I felt so guilty for being such a rotten sinful person. Especially since the sins were not specified.
Do you think it’s up to the each individual Priest or Minister to decide the Sermon or do the Churches give directions to the clergy about how much time to spend on topics like “sin” vs. the “deceased”?
olga…to answer your question quickly. It’s both and neither. There isn’t usually a specific directive, but there is a general ‘tradition’ of what to talk about at such occasions. The more ‘fundamentalist’ churches (and I use the term in its actual literal sense not what it has come to mean) use the opportunity of death to try to make people think about where they’re going to spend eternity and set about quite literally ‘scaring the hell out of them.’ I do know that Catholics have taken guilt to an art form, but they’re not the only guilty ones…(I know, *groan*).

Stripping someone of citizenship only works if that person has another citizenship, like Romanian. After that you just throw him/her back to Romania
