Time is not on the side of the new green parliamentary party Politics Can Be Different (LMP) and it may not be able to field a candidate for Budapest’s mayor in the October local election, Nepszabadsag daily said on Wednesday.
A new law stipulating the collection a larger number of nomination slips within a shorter period of time for a party to be able to run candidates is proving difficult for the small green party.
The new law was passed with the two-thirds parliamentary majority of the Fidesz-Christian Democratic party alliance in the summer.
Under the law, the party must collect 28,000 slips for its candidate Benedek Javor, the paper said.
LMP activists work around the clock here for Javor, who until now has received 16,000-17,000 slips.
Gergely Karacsony, LMP’s parliamentary group leader told the paper that they were still hopeful two weeks before the slips must be submitted to the election authority.

Slips? You mean as in what women used to wear under their dresses?
Oh, I get it, you mean petitions? Why not call it that, or make up something that is not ambiguous, maybe “voter support card” or something like that.
Slip. Indeed. Nouns, verbs, what the heck, they are all words.
@budapeter and all:
FYI – LMP made it, got enough “slips” …
Of course some people scream foul!
Direct from the mouth of the assholes (sorry, hungarianambience):
“Admittedly, the party is funded by an American businessman, and because of this the party has no need to worry about spending money when it comes to buying nomination forms.”

I’m still wondering why the “satanic twins” Law and LYNCH didn’t bring this up – well maybe they are occupied over the weekend …
