A Hungarian ensign, Gyorgy Kolozsvari, who was injured in an attack on their convoy in northern Afghanistan two weeks ago has died from his wounds in a Budapest hospital, the defence ministry told MTI on Tuesday.
The 37-year-old warrant officer was one of the four soldiers attacked on August 23 during transport from the Hungarian base of Pul-i-Khumri towards the city of Mazar-e-Sharif. A 32-year-old female sergeant, Judit Abraham Papp died on the spot, while Kolozsvari sustained serious face and skull injuries and two other soldiers were less severely injured.
Chief of staff Tibor Benko has called a meeting of the committee responsible for making nominations to declare the deceased soldier a national hero.
