New poll indicates large majority still upbeat about Fidesz government

A hundred days into the current government term, 57 percent of voters are satisfied with the government’s performance, according to a Nezopont Institute poll released on Tuesday.

The most popular measures included the launch of the New Szenchenyi plan and the introduction of the banking levy, which both attracted the approval of 61 percent of Hungarians, the survey showed.

The introduction of new legislation to simplify the granting of Hungarian citizenship to ethnic Hungarians living beyond the borders was approved by 58 percent of the sample.

Some 78 percent of Fidesz supporters said they were satisfied with the government’s performance. Only 33 percent of the supporters of green party Politics Can Be Different, 32 percent of the supporters of radical nationalist Jobbik and 27 percent of Socialist Party supporters said they were satisfied with the government’s work.

Support for Prime Minister Viktor Orban has remained high; 63 percent of respondents rated his performance highly.

Nezopont surveyed 2,000 voters by phone.
