Ex-Socialist chairman Ferenc Gyurcsány is founding a group named the Democratic Coalition within the party, he announced to the party executive on Tuesday.
Gyurcsány said he will organise “a broad, open social community for 1989 democrats”, and a political representation for them. The mood at the meeting was calm, but several party officials expressed disagreement with him.
Gyurcsány will reportedly give an account of the new group at the October 16 meeting of the party’s national council and the Democratic Coalition will officially launch on October 22.
