Prime Minister Orban concludes visit to China

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban concluded his official visit to China in the early afternoon on Tuesday, local time, and left Shanghai for home.

Orban was invited to a high-level forum and the closing event of the Shanghai World Expo by his Chinese counterpart Wen Jiabao. The Hungarian premier was one of the keynote speakers at the plenary session of the forum.

Holding a 30-minute consultation in Shanghai, Orban and Wen agreed to tighten bilateral political, economic and cultural relations.

The Hungarian premier visited the Chinese pavilion, the joint pavilion of the European Union and Belgium, as well as the Polish and the Hungarian exhibitions.

In Shanghai he saw some buildings designed by Laszlo Hudec, an eminent Hungarian architect who worked in the Chinese city during the 1920s and 1930s.

The prime minister’s programme mostly comprised business talks. Orban met the chief executives of several major players of the Chinese economy.

Orban’s entourage included Foreign Minister Janos Martonyi and National Development Minister Tamas Fellegi.
