A delegation from the International Press Institute (IPI) and South and East Europe Media Organisation (Seemo) met yesterday with senior personnel of Hungarian state-run and commercial media to discuss concerns regarding press freedom in Hungary.
IPI’s Press Freedom and Communications Manager Anthony Mills, along with Seemo general secretary Oliver Vujovic and board member Marta Palics, will meet state officials today, including Media Authority president Annamária Szalai.
Vujovic told Népszabadság that the goal of their two-day visit is to form a picture of the situation of the media in Hungary, its problems and developments.

Did they go an a fact-finding visit to Gaza?
Did they go on a fact-finding visit to the illegal israeli settlenets?
Several International Media has had its own reps on the ground in Gaza for years, but what has that to do with Hungary?
And Hungarian Press and Media laws/rules?
“Jobbik” does not have a delegation in the Gaza-strip, but still speaks about Gaza like it was their own area, so what is the difference?
@Viking
Thank you , so I not the only one fed up with every single thread starting with
Oh but Israel
Oh but China
Oh but Us
Oh but ,,,,,,,,,,,,
@LHVJ Did they go an a fact-finding visit to blah blah blah……….
Are you saying that because Israel does it, it is ok for Hungary to do it?
LHVJ,
yes there were fact finding commisions to israel and gaza. Goldstone report for example, Un report,
etc…
But what has this to do with hungarian media law changes???
or do like ,as usual, to play the “jew-card”?
@ Abacsi
I am sorry I am the one who has to break the bad news but you are one confused and not very bright individual (you must be Jewish or Roma this website has nothing to do with Hungary – it’s all about Israel.
Maybe you have friends who know how to use the Internet and can help you find an English speaking website that focuses on Hungary and when you find it, please post it for someone like me who is as confused as you are. (of course since I am still in denial about being Jewish or Roma, the “not too bright” is not applicable in my case)
@LHVJ
And Hungarians wonder why, as a group, they’re viewed as anti-semitic.
Thank you for the demonstration.
And generally, the point is that being free to publish opinions contrary to the ruling party’s stance and then being free to be fined an exorbitant amount isn’t freedom of the press. If journalists in any media face repersussions for printing opinions, debate ceases to exist.
Then again, this wouldn’t be the first time Hungary saw a one-party system.
@olga:
“I am still in denial about being Jewish or Roma, the “not too bright” is not applicable in my case”
If you’re none of the above, why are you so passionate supporting them? Maybe you’re not so bright after all.
@Avid Breeder:
“And Hungarians wonder why, as a group, they’re viewed as anti-semitic.”
Hungarians are not a “group”. MAZSIHISZ is a group.

Re: “If you’re none of the above, why are you so passionate supporting them? ”
I blame my parents – I had a terrible childhood;
my parents were hard working immigrants who never bothered to teach me the importance of hating people who were a different race, religion, nationality and sexual orientation.
No wonder I tragically I ended up with a WASP husband with the same rotten deprived background and between the two of us we ruined our two children who are now too old to learn the fine art of racism so we blew it. Mea Culpa.
I already posted the words to the song “You have to be carefully taught” so this time I found the

@AvidReader
I do not even like Orban or Fidesz but I find that those who shut their eyes at the horrible things Nazi Israel does should not try to lecture others about anything, especially about media freedom or freedom of any kind.
Rick Sanchez was fired the day after he dared imply that the media was in Jewish hands. How can you have freedom of press if Jews own or control most of the media?

And what about the terrible things Hungary did in Novi Sad then?
Should that not make you, as an alleged Hungarian, not to comment on anything any other country does/think?
You do not give other countries that right due to their history, so?

-
“The 1942 raid in Novi Sad, commonly known as the Novi Sad massacre, was a massacre of civilians in Hungarian occupied Vojvodina in January 1942, after the Axis invasion of Yugoslavia. Over 3,000 civilian hostages, mostly of Serb, Jewish and Roma ethnicity, were rounded up and killed in reprisal for resistance activities by the Hungarian Axis troops
The massacre is considered one of the most notable war crimes during the Axis occupation of Serbia”
From what you normally write it is easy to see you are missing these Good Ol’ Days of Hungarian Glory
How about some facts?
Népszabadság and the Communist trash:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N%C3%A9pszabads%C3%A1g
Népszabadság is a major left-leaning Hungarian newspaper, founded in 1956 as successor of “Szabad Nép” (The Free People), the central organ of the dissolved Hungarian Working People’s Party. “Népszabadság” literally means “People’s Freedom”, and is a reference to the paper’s communist roots: it was the mouthpiece of the communist Hungarian Socialist Workers’ Party until 1989 and is often considered as supportive to the present Hungarian Socialist Party (MSZP). In 1989, Népszabadság broke away from the HSWP and became independent.

@Loonie liar LYNCH:
How about some “facts” ?
He was made President by the Communist MSZP/SZDSZ coalition and he only pretends to care for Hungarians.

Still “going strong” telling idiocies that nobody here’s interested in ?
“Still “going strong” telling idiocies that nobody here’s interested in ?”
Isn’t that exactly what you are doing with such diligence?
Nothing, but a good stasi training can prepare you for being a nuisance all the time.
@Blitz&Witz:
Nice to hear that you read and like my comments – they were just meant to make LYNCH’s name disappear …
Hope you can spend more time here enlightening us on this site with your infinite wisdom …
@WolfiBlitz
I could write a chapter on all the things I do not like about the Fidesz media law but when I see that Népszabadság, the Communist trash opposes the media law, I start looking for the good things in the Fidesz media law because anything the Communist trash hates cannot be all-bad.
This paper was a willing assistant and facilitator of torturing and murdering many tens of thousands of innocent Hungarians under the Communist Rakosi/Kadar terror regimes.
When they speak of freedom for press is no different from the child rapist Polanski speaking for child protection.

We and Fidesz will remember that statement when they come for kuruc-info
You are just a stupid fuck who think that this law is directed against Népszabadság and other mainstream media. They will always find a way around this, if no other way than over Brussels
But who will protect the “freedom of kuruc-info”?
Obviously not even you
You do not like to protect your own right to speak up on media like this, then a rather obvious continuation of how Hungary is moving right now, is that the comments you do normally will be disallowed, and you will not be able to let it be heard on any Hungarian-based web-site (like this one)
Your ability to see in the future stops around your nose-tip
You seem to have a very short nose
