Fidesz fines MP for fiddling expenses

The Fidesz caucus has fined party MP and Miskolc deputy mayor Marcell Zsiga for illegally collecting expenses from both Parliament and the local authority.

Zsiga admitted to the crime at a meeting of the Fidesz ethic committee Monday evening. He vowed to refund the unlawfully collected money and to give a further Ft 100,000 to charity.

So why is he not in jail?
    Just because he is Fidesz?

  2. tom says:

I thought it is the court that sentences people to prison. Police can detain people in jail if that is necessary for the investigation. Jail is not actually punishment but tool for investigation.

  3. Viking says:

The point is, if the MP would have been *anything* else but Fidesz(/KDNP), the Orban Tsar would be all over the place demanding the Prosecutor starting an “investigation”
That is how it works in Hungary today
Just look at Fidesz illegalities in Esztergom

Viking, you are most likely right. However, assuming that this would mean jail or even sentence is another matter – at least i hope so…
Of course i guess oposition can raise the issue as much as they want?

I do not agree, cheating by taking out double expenses, or inflated such, is a crime, not an offense
It is similar to stealing money and it could also have an additional tax effect, that would be more of an offence, depending how you reported this double expenses
    .
So if Fidesz wanted to show that being Fidesz is being not only *above* the Law, but even *being* the Law, the Fidesz Parliamentarian faction should distance itself from MP Zsiga until final sentencing, report the crime to the Police and publicly declare that they will support a request of stripping MP Zsiga of his Parliamentarian immunity, if so requested by the Prosecution, if MP Zsiga does not wave his immunity before
    .
Doing this Fidesz would prove every one is equal before the Hungarian Law
Not that it will happen though, instead we get this political show with MP Zsiga giving an indulgence of 100.000 HUF to some Fidesz charity
    Just revolting
No wonder they go on and change democratic processed court rulings

Viking, sorry you misunderstood me. I meant hopefully political considerations are not affecting legal process so it was basically same as your (long) comment. However, i am not sure there is any proof if court sentences have been influenced by political considerations, whether or not Fidesz or others make a lot of noice.
I still believe that police pretty much follows their own logic and if there is crime it will be investigated based on laws.

FIDESZ is the law now. FIDESZ won the election. Live with it, or go back to Lappland.
Hungarians will deal with their own problems, your stupid rants are just boring.

No, that is not how it works in a democracy
Parliament creates laws, the Police and Prosecution, independent from the Parliament, enforces them
Here we have 2 obvious examples where Fidesz breaks this working tradition:
    1) Refuse to report a stealing Fidesz MP to the Police
    2) Changes court verdicts en masse, without following the normal procedures for appeal, etc
    .
Winning any election does not mean in a democracy you are allowed to do what you want and later even Fidesz will experience that

    Be patient, people!
These poor Fidesz MP-s just barely started collecting yet…
Wait and see, how well developed their skill will be around the end of their mandate-period, and the following one!
So, there is still hope, they will surpass even the best’s of the MSZP…
