Fidesz coup in progress, says Socialist chairman

A constitutional coup d’état is underway, Socialist chairman Attila Mesterházy told a party rally in the Pilvax passage on Tuesday. The events of recent months have proved that democracy, freedom and the independence of democratic institutions are in danger, he said.

Former prime minister Ferenc Gyurcsány and top Socialist Party officials also attended.

The German head of the Socialist European Parliament caucus Martin Schulz said “in a democracy the media supervises those in power; not the other way round. The Socialist Party has the support of the world’s social democratic forces,” he added.

In an interview with Népszabadság Schulz said politicians, no matter which party they belong to, should keep well away from the media, adding that “journalists are sometimes recalcitrant, but are indispensable for democracy. He told Népszava that the Hungarian media law has not been removed from Europe’s agenda.

Schulz was one of several people receive to a “free press prize” from Mesterházy at the Pilvax Café.

    Yes, this is hilarious: a coup-d’état is ‘constitutional’: a curious constitution, such a one!
    But might Mesterházy have had in mind a ‘coup-d’état by constitution’, a situation in which the constitution seizes power from the état, where Mesterházy is the état, or would be, but for the constitution that overthrew him? (Well, something has to explain why he is not the état, and, hell’s bells, not even the prime minister!) Then again, maybe it was nothing more than Mesterházy deciding that ‘coup-d’état’ sounds like something fascist, so that’s what Orbán must be doing. What a cretin he is, whatever else is the case.

    They will hardly understand what we say here in English. They probably never saw an Internet-animal before
    .
    On the other hand, these despised “old age pensioners” were not paid to be there, but came by their own free will
    Maybe that is why they are so despised, compared to these ‘up-right real Hungarians’ below?
