Gyurcsány calls for structural, moral renewal of Socialist Party

The opposition Socialist Party has now exhausted its reserves and will not have enough support to challenge ruling Fidesz in the foreseeable future, former Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány told commercial television ATV on Thursday evening, and called for structural and moral renewal.

Gyurcsány said that many of the Socialists were “unhappy and frustrated” with efforts by his Democratic Coalition Platform to reshape the party. He added that his platform was in minority both in the party’s national leadership and at local levels.

The former PM and party leader said “all his efforts” were aimed at renewing the party and denied assumptions that he had been behind a recent initiative to organise a new party. He added that he saw the Democratic Party – now being registered with the authorities – as an “initiative by good-willed laymen without posing significant political risk”.

Concerning his proposal to ask the membership in a vote if party leaders should be obliged to declare their income and assets, Gyurcsány said that “though probably there are also rotten apples in the basket”, but added that he was convinced that most leaders and members were honest and it was necessary to make “demonstrative steps” and clearly indicate that the Socialists want to become “the most honest party” of Hungary.

Isn’t it lovely when a moral insanity calls for moral renewal?

I think this is fantastic…Feri, is his own worst enemy, and the people who would vote for an individual like him….deserve what they get.

    Not all of them.
Some of the Gyurcsány supporters will get a nice payout if he succeeds. Cushy jobs, bribe money, juicy government contracts, etc. Crime does pay.
The stupid little people who still believe the Gyurcsány propaganda will get nothing, but as we know, “socialists” really don’t care about the little people.
    No one does.

    @Ferkó,
    “Not all of them”
And you’re right, but I’m pretty sure, you knew what I meant.
As for the rest of your post…you got my vote. Sad, but true, it is.

So you are saying that Gyurcsány has a track-record of introducing laws that legalise that the State can fire anyone without any reason?
    .
A law that everyone admits is a swift way of get the supporters of the previous Government out of office to replace them with followers of the current administration
All you accuse Gyurcsány, The Supreme Leader is doing faster, in a bigger and obvious way and is openly proud of it
    So what is the difference?

    “So what is the difference?”
No difference. Just because someone can’t stand Gyurcsany it doesn’t necessarily mean he’s an Orban supporter. It’s a sad situation when we only have two choices: Gyurcsany or Orban.
