Martonyi says new Hungarian foreign policy strategy on way

The Foreign Ministry will finish drafting Hungary’s foreign policy strategy within the next 1-2 months, Foreign Minister Janos Martonyi told a meeting in Budapest of Hungarian diplomats stationed abroad.

The ministry is also drafting comprehensive legislation aimed at enhancing cooperation in the areas of foreign affairs, economic and cultural diplomacy, he said on Monday.

On the subject of Hungary’s bid to become non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council in 2012-13, Martonyi said that though membership was not a strategic goal of Hungary’s diplomacy, the bidding process itself had brought benefits to the country.
