Opposition parties reveal upcoming parliamentary session plans

Citing sources within the party, Socialist-friendly daily Népszabadság has revealed internal plans for the party faction to reinvent and reassert themselves over the coming months during the parliament’s autumn cycle. Instead of just criticizing the government, they would also use their turn to speak to spread their own party’s platform. Additionally, pivotal legislation would also receive more attention than before.

Faction leader Attila Mesterházy, when asked by the daily if there was ground for compromise, stated that each piece of legislation would be taken by itself, adding that with respect to the education law, they were able to find common ground with Fidesz MP and former education minister Zoltán Pokorni. Mesterházy left open other avenues of cooperation with the government.

Left-liberal party Lehet Más a Politika also revealed that they would focus the autumn session on establishing their party as a viable alternative to the current government, as well as revealing the “voodoo economics” practiced by the government. Party chief András Schiffer added that legislation on campaign finance and elections would be of utmost importance.

Far-right party Jobbik pegged the fate of forex borrowers and Hungarian-Gypsy coexistence as the heart of their autumn program, claiming that with respect to the banks, little distinguishes the Orbán government from the one led by Ferenc Gyurcsány.
