Chairman of the main opposition Socialist Party Attila Mesterhazy met leaders of ethnic Hungarian organisations on Sunday and proposed setting up a roundtable with regular meetings in the future.
Mesterhazy told MTI that he had met Istvan Gajdos, chairman of the Hungarian Democratic Federation in Ukraine, Sandor Juhasz, head of the Union of Hungarian Associations from Croatia, and Istvan Pasztor, chairman of the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians, an event in Balatonlelle organised by the Pro Minoritate Europae and For Democracy Foundation.
The Socialists plan to improve links with ethnic Hungarian organisations beyond the borders and pursue nation politics based on dialogue. The foundation has started operations as an element of this scheme, Mesterhazy said.
The roundtable will be a forum for coordination and an expert from each region beyond the borders will be invited to participate in it. Problems of ethnic Hungarian communities beyond the borders will be discussed and the government’s nation policy will be assessed, he added.
