State secretary Ágnes Molnár is tipped to replace Tamás Fellegi as Minister of National Development after the latter made his intentions to step down clear last week. Owing to the EU summit, it remained until Monday to see how Prime Minister Viktor Orbán would react, but on Monday he said Fellegi would continue as a minister without portfolio tasked with overseeing talks with the IMF.
Sources within Fidesz have named Ágnes Molnár as Fellegi’s likely replacement, since she frequently attending government meetings in Fellegi’s place and she is also considered a strong player within the party, having been the party leader in the western region. Another factor in her favor is that she would help redress the gender imbalance in the current government.
State secretary for transport János Fónagy has also been suggested as a possible successor, but he said he had yet to be approached. Other names suggested were Antal Rogán, unlikely because he is also a district mayor, and MVM director Csaba Baji.[index.hu]
