Parliament approved 213 laws last year, the largest number in Hungary’s history, law publisher CompLex told MTI on Sunday.
The former record-holder was the year 2010, with 191 laws enacted, it said.
The 213 laws were passed in 98 days of session, resulting in about two pieces of legislation approved each day on the average.
Forty percent of laws were approved in the last quarter of the year, a high percentage even if that period of the year is usually characterised by an upsurge in legislation, including budget and tax laws for the subsequent year, said the publisher.

Amazing! As far as I can work out, the UK parliament only passed 25 laws last year. Now I understand why no two Hungarian officials have the same story about what the law says, there’s simply too much to keep up with.
Mind you that, unlike in the UK, there’s a major overhaul going on in Hungary. Legislation work will be much slower in 2012 and especially from 2013.
Bravo – Hungary need to act quickly to distance itself from post-communist country it was just 2 or 3 years ago…
So what are the principal difference with these new laws *in reality* that changes Hungary from being a “post-communist country it was just 2 or 3 years ago”?
Just that Fidesz is in power and enshrined that its policies for all future to come cannot be changed with less than a 2/3rd majority?
We only need one more law: public flogging for any politician who vote for stupid laws.
And for readers of Hungarian, see how well has the president been performing his duties…
