Is Orbánism infectious or Hungary’s ailment alone?

Messianic at home and detested abroad, Orbánism has a bad image. Hungary is the only Western country where (according to Freedom House) democracy is in retreat. Not only that, but Viktor Orbán’s government is, critics say, bent on economic ruin and picking fights with the neighbors. Some even regard it as the local variant of Putinism — the authoritarian rule pioneered by the ex-KGB regime in Russia. Believe the real doomsters, and the poisonous Orbánist cocktail is set to spread across the rest of Eastern Europe.
