Quotable: Sándor Fazekas on the agricultural land leasing controversy

“It had been said many times that land is a lucrative business. If that was true, everyone would be out scrambling on the fields and toiling away to earn their living.”

Agriculture Minister Sándor Fazekas, commenting on the continuing allegations that well-connected individuals have benefited from leases of state agricultural land. Fazekas said that while the opposition calls land "big business," that label is best reserved for the stock exchange, because there "you don't have to hoe." [index.hu]

    This doesn’t make any sense.

You can’t just go out and toil in the fields, you need to own or lease the land first. But Fidesz are giving away all the government leases to Fidesz office-holders.

And nowadays you don’t have to be out toiling away in the fields. You just need to fill in your subsidy paperwork.

You don’t have to look any further than the Felcsut and Kajászó land lease scandal. If large tracts of land are distributed for long-term lease at a low cost, the beneficiaries could be people who are committed Fidesz supporters and/or friends like guess who György Antalffy and his family (1,830 hectares 130 million HuF/ year even if they don’t step a foot on it) and Lőrinc Mészáros and his family (1,000 hectares, 75 million HuF/year even if they don’t step a foot on it). 20 year leases means life is real good for these “farmers” several who live in Budapest.

The Angyan Plan was much fairer. Instead of large-scale agriculture he envisaged small, 40 to 50 hectare farms cultivated by individual families.

So this jerk off saying “It had been said many times that land is a lucrative business…” Yeah no shit especially if you’re a corrupt Fidesz businessman friend of the very corrupt OV regime. Slimey shit any way you look at it. People actually elected this lying little POS? Mystifying…

White man speak with forked tongue, as the native Americans said when the settlers stole their land. Land can be a very lucrative business, but only if the area of a holding is measured in thousands of hectares. Which is why Fidesz is giving big, single blocks to its buddies and repeating the same “this house is not for sale” claptrap to everybody else.
