Quotable: Viktor Orbán on the Hungarian government’s thinking and logic

“We insist on our way of thinking and logic. We either find a way that leads into the future we have envisaged or we’re going to build one.”

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, speaking on Monday in Parliament about the Hungarian government's politics and the political pressure it has come under from the EU. Regarding his government's economic policies and the EU lifting the excessive deficit procedure against Hungary, Orbán said: "The European crisis management is still not sufficiently successful, but we have a paper that proves the Hungarian way is successful." So he’s had three years in power, plus all that time in opposition when he should have been planning, and he’s still looking for ways that he can deliver on his slogans. Why does he think that’s something to be proud of?

“So he’s had three years in power”

      2002 – 1998 = 4
      2012 – 2010 = 2

      4 != 3
      4 + 2 != 3

Why do you think there’s something you can be proud of?

      • Leto. مؤدّب

        2 != 3

  • Vidra

Whatever. But why does he seem to be proud of the fact that he still doesn’t know how he’s going to deliver on his promises?

    • Leto. مؤدّب

      “whatever” :D

Is this how you work in general? ;)

  • Leto. مؤدّب

As far as the quote is concerned, I love the second sentence. It expresses being determined so well. :)

    • Vidra

Unfortunately for Viktór, leaders are judged on results, not on testosterone levels. )

    • Leto – Stan

      Did you write it???

  • Math Expert

Just to be clear…..PM Orban has been in office for 3 years….2010, 2011, 2012…..1+1+1=3……..

    • Ma Jar

Orban is doing a fine job – at least as good as most leaders including Obama, Harper, the late Sarkozy to name a few.

      • Vidra

What, concretely, has he done to deserve your approval?

        • Ma Jar

Hungary is viewed in a much more positive light since Orban took over.

          • Pa Jar

Yes, we are loved by everybody in the world because we’re so smart, clever and forward thinking. I have heard that there’s a waiting list of 1.2 million companies that want to invest in Hungary. The only thing that holds them back is some “red tape.”

          • Pa Jar

Did I just say “red tape”? Please disregard this comment, there is no red tape in Hungary – that was communist era.

    • sheesh

In calendar terms yes, but effectively only little over two years. He took office in May 2010, which means this past May Viki had been in power for two years.

    • Leto. مؤدّب

Just to be clear, PM Orban was sworn in office in May, 2010. That was two years and 2 months ago.

Glad I could help you, Math Expert.

  • Democrat

Okay, so fully two years and two months into his reign he is now talking about finding a way or building one. 26 wasted months to date.

    “the future we have envisaged”

More vague, largely nonsensical slogans from Don Viktor. I suppose we should be thankful that he didn’t further elaborate what future he was envisaging. Probably some fairytale with him riding around Hungary on a white horse, in an admiral’s uniform.

  • Cnut

And we have envisaged a poverty stricken, high tax, authoritarian, statist society, run by pointless bits of paper and idiotic regulations, with a small clique of criminals at the top.

We insist on our way of thinking and logic. We either find a way that leads into the future we have envisaged or we’re going to build one.

“Unfortunately for Viktór, leaders are judged on results, not on testosterone levels. )”
    Hahaaaaa!
Actually, having said that I think the results of all that testosterone are quite considerable as well ;-)

  • Feher Gyorgy

Orban is the only leader who can bring a Brighter Future. We all expect that it will arrive any minute now.
We’ve got the recession, the stock market declines and the Euro-crisis and Orban is the only one on this continent taking real action with revolutionary plans like phone taxes, bank taxes and chip taxes – billions of HUF that will serve this country to become an economic leader. Of the EU, IMF and CNN are acting so hateful against Hungary lately, it’s pure jealousy.
You’ll see, nothing or nobody will stop Orban and he will not rest until Hungary’s GDP is the highest in the world.
    22 more months to go!!

  • Feher Gyorgy

The reason why the EU, IMF and CNN are acting so hateful against Hungary lately, it’s pure jealousy.
    (Sorry, must be the heat).

  • get real

“thinking and logic” oh well, this is hard for losers!

    try something else!

  • In tuncany

Mr feher gyorgy, nothing or nobody will stop orban you say…
Right, perhaps thats why theyre expanding the great magyar nuclear energy program… Is he planning to build a bomb with that sheit…
God, Orban is a mad dog like that weirdo iranian…
A midget with the ambitions of a giant…

  • get real

No, a midget with a giant ambition!
