Orbán sends birthday greetings to former Socialist PM Gyula Horn

Prime Minister Viktor Orban greeted in a letter former Socialist head of government Gyula Horn, who will turn 80 on Thursday, the PM’s press chief told MTI on Wednesday.

All public leaders are obliged to pay tribute to the achievements of their predecessors, since the nation cannot be promoted without cooperation between consecutive generations, Bertalan Havasi quoted Orban’s letter.

“First of all we are Hungarians and we work towards prosperity of the nation based on our faith and the best of our knowledge. Therefore there are more links than divisions between us,” the letter said.

Horn was prime minister of Hungary from 1994 to 1998. He has been in hospital with serious health problems since 2007.

I am generally a critic of the current government, but I am very happy to see Orban acting graciously by sending birthday greeting to Horn. I encourage all sides of the Hungarian political debate to follow Orban’s act of civility.

Orbán wrote this after he declared Horn’s political party a criminal organisation, and even now is planning probably to strip him of his pension.

Orbán lies morning, noon and night.

No, it’s Gyurcsány who lies morning, noon and night. Remember he even admitted this, using these very words, to his comrades in sin?

      • Cnut

Gyurcsány had the self-awareness to see it and the balls to admit it. And the stupidity to say it.

Orbán doesn’t have self-awareness or balls. He can’t even tell the truth about telling lies.

We see a lie a day from Orbán. Almost everytime he opens hs mouth. You stil haven’t been able to actually name a lie from Gyurcsány.

        • Leto. مؤدّب

Gyurcsány had the balls to admit it to his 100-odd crowd of lackeys behind closed doors. It worked so well on them so he thought it would work for the whole country, too, and he arranged to have the “truth speech” leaked out.

          He was very wrong. :D :D :D

          • Cnut

I agree it was a ridiculous move. It doesn’t change the fact that Orbán can’t move his lips without lying.

To Cunt: What balls did Gyurcsany have? Tennis balls, footballs, soccer balls, hardballs, softballs or baseballs. Ah, then perhaps he had lacrosse balls which are as small as tennis balls but as hard as golf balls which are the smallest of balls or did he have the biggest of balls the medicine balls.

This country gets more like North Korea every day. Now we have the Prime Minister exploiting the sickness of a former leader to make himself look gracious. He could not stoop much lower if he tried, and he is a short man to begin with.

    • Ma Jar

It is normal to send birthday greetings to one’s opponent – present or past, a practice popular in more progressive countries. Mr. Orban has picked up on this and this is to his credit. By the way, the shorter man is Mr. Horn.
