Esztergom mayor suspends council members’ salaries in bid to cut HUF 1 billion

Independent mayor Éva Tétényi has suspended payment of councillors’ honorariums from July due to Esztergom’s Ft 1 billion budget deficit, town hall press chief István H. Váczy announced on Friday.

The sum is nearly Ft 100,000 per head, or Ft 1.5 million a month. Fidesz caucus leader Balázs Steindl called the measure arbitrary.
