Quotable: László Bartus on how to shut down kuruc.info

“Getting rid of kuruc.info cannot be approached by a futile chase of server owners but by eliminating the activities of the editors… If there are no legal grounds for the editors’ arrest, the present government with its two-thirds majority could easily take care of that. That is, if it had any such intention. But it doesn’t.”

László Bartus, editor of Amerikai Magyar Népszava, the oldest Hungarian-language paper in the United States, on the Hungarian government's unsuccessful attempts to silence far-right website kuruc.info. [nepszava.com]

I support eliminating the activities of László Bartus. If there are no legal grounds for his arrest, the present government with its two-thirds majority could easily take care of that. That is, if it had any such intention. But unfortunately it doesn’t.

    • Vidra

So you condone the existence of a site that openly and crudely promotes hatred of minorities and yet you believe that media outlets which promote views that are a bit more to the left of yours should be closed down. Is it because you and your Bunkósztani friends know that the truth can hurt them in a way that the far-rights lies can’t?

      • Leto. مؤدّب

What wrote was about this László Bartos.

I didn’t say anything about kuruc.info in my post. As far as kuruc.info is concerned, I don’t read it but a few times I read something there convinced me that’s the lowest of the lowest shite. So I don’t condone its existence. And I don’t condone the existence of the site created by László Bartos either.

        Glad I could help you.

        • Bowen

What, you mean Kuruc.info criticised Don Viktor?

But all the other stuff, the gay-bashing, j*w-hating stuff, Horthy-worshipping, Trianon-fetishing, you actually quite like, no?

So of course, people like László Bartus who call for Kuruc.info to be shut down, you’re rabidly against. Quel surpris.

          • Leto. مؤدّب

I’m not surprised you defend this extremist Bartus, something quite close to kuruc.info in the opposite direction. Similis simili gaudet.

  • olga

    @ Leto

I see you are not a Bartus fan, but does he have a point and does FIDESZ have the power to charge kuric editors with inciting hate?

Orban did bring in legislation to protect minorities and I was under the impression there was no First Amendment type legislation to hide behind in Hungary.

I just went to the Kuruc website and since reading Hungarian is time consuming for me, I was not going to waste more then 5 minutes struggling through trash, but as soon as one logs on to the website, you can see headings for “gypsy crime” (local issues) “J*ewish crime” ( I*srael and Hamas headlines, perhaps there is a shortage of J. crimes in Hungary) and “Humour”

I decided to look at humour and the first picture I saw was a black male athlete holding a bike with the caption “Nigga Stole my Bike” – had something to do with Zagyva Gyula’s missing bike. No surprise, that’s exactly what I would expect kuruc readers to find funny

I would love to see these pigs (my apologies to the animal) facing criminal charges for inciting hatred.

    • Anonymous

      Little censor Olga …

Guess you never hear of the First Amendment …

    • Leto. مؤدّب

      @olga:

I’m far from being a Bartus-fan indeed. Maybe you shouldn’t be one either. It was his site where a certain Ákos Kertész wrote “Hungarians are genetically inferior” and Bartos vehemently defended this sentence.

Don’t waste your time with kuruc.info, that’s really rubbish.

  • olga

    @ Anonymous

This would be the clue that I heard of the First Amendment:

“Orban did bring in legislation to protect minorities and I was under the impression there was no First Amendment type legislation to hide behind in Hungary.”

  • Beleiur

It seems like kuruc.info is the worst threat of the entire Hungarian government. The fate of the nation hangs in the hand of whether kuruc.info exists or not Is this a joke??

    • Cnut

Obviously you lack certain basic mental skills. No one said the fate of the nation depends on this. No one said it is the worst threat to the entire Hungarian government.

  • freedom

This is disgusting talk. Kuruc.info has a right to exist whether some people like it or not. Just because some small-minded people can’t beat the arguments made on Kuruc.info with their own counter arguments and counter websites does not give them a right to try and ban a site they dislike.

    • Cnut

Kuruc.info does not have a right to exist! That’s just silly.

It’s not a life-form or entity – it’s just a collection of badly written words for stupid people or mentally ill.

  • freedom

Laszlo Bartus – is just mad because many Hungarian-Americans no longer follow Amerikai Nepszava. That paper has become the tool of the Democrat party of America to gain control over all Hungarian-American voters, just like many other minority-language news portals in America.

I think more Hungarian Americans actually visit Kuruc.info then any Hungarian-American run site.

Some people like Bartus are just mad because they can’t compete. They want to go back to the days of Stalinist run media where only their voice is heard. They long for the days when they could just ban the competition.

    • Curious George

I think more Hungarian Americans actually visit Kuruc.info then any Hungarian-American run site.

Doesn’t say much about them, does it? At least, we can understand why their contribution to Hungary is so limited.

  • Ma Jar

Olga is a Bartus fan because he does not bad mouth Hungarians.

    • Leto. مؤدّب

So you say the sentence “Hungarians are genetically inferior”, which Bartos so vehemently defended, is not bad-mouthing Hungarians.

  • Ma Jar

    Point proven!

  • olga

    @ Leto

I have no idea what Ma Jar meant, but as long as he knows, that’s what counts.

Yesterday I read both the kuruc and the Bartos article by clicking on the links next to the Bartos picture. If you read the article carefully, IMHO he totally contradicts himself unless of course he goes against the Americans’ opinions.

    1) .”the Americans wrote a very polite letter in which they spoke highly of Hungary and talked exclusively of the anti-Semitism of Jobbik, not that of Fidesz.”

    2) “By now the situation has come to the point that he (Orban) should slap around some of the people, including himself, within his own party because they speak the language of the anti-Semites.

    Huh?

You can think what you want about Akos Kertesz but I feel sorry for him because a long time ago when the story broke, I came to the conclusion that he was suffering from some sort of dementia. I considered his age , his background, the honours that Hungary bestowed upon him which he accepted, the statements he made including about genetics and /redemption/, the statement he recanted and his decision to apply for refugee status in Canada (?!)

Thus I do not blame him for the /Kertesz fiasco/ – I blame people like Bartos, Eva Balogh & Co who are using a sick old man’s ramblings to further their own agenda.

    • Leto. مؤدّب

      @olga:

Yes, I agree. Given his old age, ÁK may suffer from some sort of dementia indeed and Bartos (and Eva Balogh & Co) don’t have that excuse.

  • spectator

    “Hungarians are genetically inferior”

Leto, I am absolutely certain that Mr.Kertész was referring to you with this sentence.

Tat load of rubbish what you’ve managed to puke all over this site during the recent days speaks for itself. If you only having some bad time – I gather that there are darn hot in Hungary – take a holiday, please, you definitely need one. Otherwise you gonna get some severe health-issues.

Is there a doctor in da house?

Otherwise Mr.Orban and Co could have solved these issues if they really wanted to long before it escalated out of control.
Remember: “If we come to power we will solve the problem of public safety within two weeks..!” and “… give them two slap on the face and send them home” regarding the MG-morons.

    So, what happened?
Did he managed to forget his own words, or simply lied?

    • Leto. مؤدّب

So do you think I’m genetically inferior to you? What race/ethnicity are you?

      • Leto. مؤدّب

The race/ethnicity of Mr.Kertész, the originator of this perl of wisdom, is well-publicized.

  • Ma Jar

Birds of a feather flock together, Kertesz and Bartus eh?
Was Kertesz’s life in danger in Hungary? Poor old man, now he can avail himself of the medical services provided in Canada.

    • justasking

      @Ma Jar,

‘Poor old man, now he can avail himself of the medical services provided in Canada’

Actually, the Canadian Government is majorly scaling back the generous medical derives that is now provided to refugee claimants.

They will be recieving basic care and meds to sustain them until their claims have been cleared.

      Finally!!!!

      • Ma Jar

Once landed and permanently living in Canada he will receive 100% benefits. Also, it is a “grandfathered” law, excuse the non pun intention.

        • justasking

          @Ma Jar,

‘Once landed and permanently living in Canada he will receive 100% benefits’

Yes, once he’s been granted that status though.

          • Leto. مؤدّب

If Canada granted asylum to a person who left Hungary because of (alleged) reactions to his proudly advertised opionion “Hungarians are genetically inferior” then that would not only tarnish Canada’s image but it would surely turn into a serious diplomacy row.

          • Damien

It’s a given fact that Hungarians are genetically inferior. Just look at the productivity numbers (extremely low) and suicide numbers (extremely high). Basically you can state that a typical Hungarian is someone who can’t do anything good in his life, except end it.

          • Leto. مؤدّب

Blurt out what race/ethnicity you are. Rumanian or the same as Ákos Kertész?

  • olga

    @ JA

I am 95% sure of the following:

While Mr. Kertesz is awaiting a decision on his refugee status claim, he would not qualify for government health care.

The Roma refugee claimants are eligible for welfare (income based eligibility) and being in receipt of welfare, basic health care is one of the benefits.

I am sure Mr. Kertesz in not indigent and has both income and/or assets therefore he would be buying his own health insurance while in Canada the same way if your relatives came for a visit.

If he succeeds in being granted permanent status, he would then be covered for health benefits like any other landed immigrant or Canadian citizen.

How he would qualify as a “refugee” is beyond me unless being a “pawn between the ulta-Right and ultra- Left” is one of the eligibility requirements.
