New twist in talks over sale of key left-leaning Hungarian newspaper Népszabadság

Instead of Ringier purchasing the 27% minority stake in publisher Népszabadság from foundation Szabad Sajtó Alapítvány, which was scheduled for the second half of June, the German investor is considering selling its majority stake, business website hvg.hu has learnt.

There was a meeting between the parties in Berlin last week with the help of former Chancellor Gerhard Schröder, a consultant to Ringier, in which Ringier offered to sell its stake for €1.

Sources from the Socialist Party confirmed that Ringier offered this majority stake for €1.

“We do not comment on rumours,” Népszabadság CEO Attila Mihók said.

    Afaik Ringier “Blick”) is a Swiss company, but they’re cooperating now with the German Springer (“Bild”) – two examples of what is called euphemistically “Quality Journalism” …

    There’s this old joke:

    Be careful when you open your copy of Blick or Bild – the blood might flow over your pants …

    Media council, combined with economically strangling… (no Fidesz/government adds…or Fidesz business cronies adds)…is working out very well. Hungary is more than halfway on the road to become another Belarus.

      No, Hungary is already a totalitarian Fascist/Nazi dictatorship, combined with a full Belarus. For Christ’s sake, just stop these idiotic posts at last!
      Why didn’t you take my advice about the joint, the tulips, the wooden slipperies and watching the sea level?

    @Orbán’s rabid kutya aka leto:

    Why don’t you return to posting on the dangers of homosexuals – the topic that you know most about or at least have the most comments ?

      @unwelcome alcoholic foreign idiot:

      Why don’t you go to hell from my country, you ex-Stasi bastard?

  • wolfi

    Well, Orbán’s rabid kutya aka leto, why don’t you jump off a bridge, you can nibalistic pedophile sadistic ex-AVH killer jumkie …

    See, I know as much about you as you know about me …

    • Leto. مؤدّب

      @unwelcome alcoholic foreign idiot:

      What does “jumkie” mean? What does “nibalistic” mean? (Sorry, that’s not in my dictionary either.)

  • Elsbeth

    Dear Leto: Your problems with ‘jumkie’ and ‘nibalistic’ are due perhaps to haste and being unused to compensating for un-proofread comments. ‘Jumbkie’ is junkie (dope addict) and ‘nibalistic’ (if you add the ‘can’ from the line above) becomes ‘cannibalistic’.

    • Leto. مؤدّب

      Dear Elsbeth,

      I must tell you a secret: In fact I did figure out that the “unwelcome alcoholic foreign idiot” meant to write “junkie”. :) (And I must admit I didn’t know indeed this pathetic idiot meant to write “cannibalistic”)
      Anyway, thanks a lot. Best wishes. :)

  • Elsbeth

    ‘Jumbkie’ (‘jumkie’)–so I didn’t proof either!
