Instead of Ringier purchasing the 27% minority stake in publisher Népszabadság from foundation Szabad Sajtó Alapítvány, which was scheduled for the second half of June, the German investor is considering selling its majority stake, business website hvg.hu has learnt.
There was a meeting between the parties in Berlin last week with the help of former Chancellor Gerhard Schröder, a consultant to Ringier, in which Ringier offered to sell its stake for €1.
Sources from the Socialist Party confirmed that Ringier offered this majority stake for €1.
“We do not comment on rumours,” Népszabadság CEO Attila Mihók said.
