Deputy state secretary to Financial Times: Don’t compare our Viktor to Romania’s Victor

Sir, The FT seeks to draw a comparison between the actions of the Romanian prime minister, in the context of the current constitutional crisis in Romania, and the longer term institutional reorganisation that Viktor Orban, the Hungarian prime minister, has been carrying out since coming to office in 2010 (“To Victor the spoils”, editorial, July 12). The fact is that the two processes are different in every respect. Indeed the comparison should serve to remind us of the differences between the two leaders’ approaches, rather than the similarities…

The FT might not approve of all of the changes the Hungarian government has introduced. And it is always helpful to have suggestions from critical friends with a good understanding of the political and societal dynamics of Hungary and central Europe. But it is unhelpful when authoritative newspapers use their editorial pages to draw erroneous comparisons.

Finally there’s something happening in Central Europe. Ponta and Orban both know that things can not remain like they are. Ordnung muss sein! Let’s hope Viktor and Victor can bring some New Order in the big mess that Europe is today.

    • Anna

You are a real nazi, just like the “leaders” you worship.

      • Leto. مؤدّب

This is a fake post by a rotten postcommie bastard. Maybe it was you.

        • Punisher

When are you going to finally shut the fuck up? Everyone who seems to disagree with you by the slightest, is immediately put to the level of “postcommie bastard”.Maybe there are those of us with a few more brain cells than you, those of us who don’t eat whatever shit the media is feeding stupid, uneducated, poor, retarded rednecks like you.keep on dreaming that your messiah is here to save you.People like you is the reason why this country doesn’t have the minimal chance for a future.

          • Leto. مؤدّب

This country has more than a minimal \chance for a future\ and you’re apparently a moron. I haven’t established yet if you’re a postcommie bastard, too, since you haven’t posted anything on-topic on this site yet.

        • Anna

I should have written: You are a real impolite, ever insulting, obnoxious nazi, just like the brainless “leaders” you worship so much.

          • Leto. مؤدّب

I’m no Nazi but you’re an obnoxious postcommie. So much about you.

          • Bowen

Oh Leto, I hope no confused Financial Times readers are wandering over here, hoping to find out what the typical Fidesz supporter is like, and finding your comments.

          • Leto. مؤدّب

Or was that you who faked the first post at July 18, 2012 at 6:29 pm?

  • Zicco

This Leto guy, does anyone know if he’s for real?

    • Leto. مؤدّب

Does anyone know if you’re for real?

    • Not Leto

For sure Leto’ss real. He’s contracted by the Fidesz government to post here. Continuously. Day and night.

    • Zicco

I am for real. Ask me anything about Hungarian politics, and I’ll give you an answer explaining how I think about the topic.
If I read your posts here, Leto, you prove to be 1) really dumb and single-minded (I think I’ve seen at least 200 comments by you where your only comment was ‘stupid post-commie bastard’) or a neo-nazi (just read some of your own comments – they would fit perfectly in the German WO II propaganda). Either way, I feel sorry for you.

  • Vidra

Funny fellow, this Leto. Sometimes he makes quite valid and politically neutral comments but I think that’s when his Fidesz handler threatens to take his drugs away unless he gets back on the game, so to speak.

The fact that the excerpt doesn’t give the Deputy State Secretary’s reasons for finding the comparison “different in every respect” makes it hard to give any meaningful comment to that, but an absence of facts doesn’t seem to have stopped Leto in the past either.

  • olga

    @ Leto

Cannot understand why all the venom against you for being a FIDESZ supporter – I know lots of people who feel the same way about our political parties not to mention I hear die hard Dems and Republicans on TV on a daily basis. (I hope Romney is toast now that Bush Sr. endorsed him so as long as Vona has nothing good to say about Orban, you should be happy) – it always makes be feel when and fuzzy about Orban when Double says something very negative about him – good sign.)

Moreover, if people want to attack you, it should be for your disgusting anti-gay comments but the “rules” are very strange on this website so maybe one has to breathe either Hungarian or American air 24/7 to really understand it

    • Bowen

@ Olga: You make some very salient and useful points here.

I’m not sure that venom is directed against Leto simply because he is a Fidesz supporter. On the contrary: I would imagine most people taking part in this forum are tolerant of, and enjoy a wide variety of views. However, the problem with Leto is that he is (as I’m sure you’ve noticed) intolerant and abusive towards anyone who merely posts something which may not be in accordance with his political views.

This not only casts him in a poor light, but reflects badly on the party he seems to support. One would hope that Fidesz are not as intolerant of other views as Leto, but one only needs to listen to someone like Laszlo Kover to find out that they actually are. Moreover, the views of Leto and the party whose views he represents are very often indistinguishable from those of Jobbik.

So, in short, I think you will find that people are not attacking Leto. On the contrary, people are questioning why Leto is so intolerant and aggressive towards anyone who seems not to share his agenda. A valid question, in my opinion.

Olga, there is nothing wrong by itself being a Fidesz supporter – while it certainly giving quite a picture of the individual’s mental- and intellectual capabilities – the problem coming to surface when the person is rude, ill-mannered and lying at every possible occasion.

I tend to think, that Leto get’s paid by the amount of character what he types – otherwise it would present a severe case of personality disorder to take this amount of rebukes – sad, but true.

I have no problem with people with different views than my own – as long as these views presented in a civilized manner and don’t aiming to hurt someone. Even then I have – a few millimeters only, but still – tolerance while I try to show another side of the picture.

However, Leto never been interested to discuss a topic, he sentences on sight and calling names when he runs out of viable arguments, which is most of the case.

A sad thing really, because sometimes he appears quite lucid and learned – would be interesting to have some substantial discussions sometimes with him.

Time by time I even feel sorry of this lonely and sour person – but that’s a life in Orbanistan these days, you see.

      • …justasking

        @spec,

‘would be interesting to have some substantial discussions sometimes with him’

I’m with Olga on this one…99% of the time, Leto’s simply giving back what allot of people around here dish out.

There’s being critical about someone/something, and then there’s being downright insulting, offensive…especially, it’s not necessary.

If Hungary isn’t a shit-hole according to some; then it’s the ‘porn capital of the world’ compliments of Cnut. It’s the delivery of some of the posts(er).

Now, it does bother me how Leto gets down right nasty about, say, gays…that’s not right. And his ‘post-commie’ line drives me up a wall (I’ve begged him to find a new word)…but, you can count on one hand, threads, where he has come out swinging (unprovoked attacks) VS snide remarks made towards him, simply because he supports and defends Fidesz.

Having ‘substantial discussions’ on this site is possible…when approached respectfully. Hell, if I can come to like a Romanian on poli.hu (sienean) anythings possible.

“Cannot understand why all the venom against you for being a FIDESZ supporter”

Well, I’ve pointed out quite a few eye-openers to you on this site … so you ought to have a clue why these priests of tolerance hate me (or Fidesz and Orbán) so much.

Let me just remind you of a quote:
“They hate. Sincerely. We, liberals have to say what I think we really feel, that is we hate you more than you hate us.” (Mihály Kornis, December 1993, Beszélő, the party journal of SZDSZ)

      • Viking

…and everyone who is not Fidesz must be SZDSZ, hence all non-Fidesz hate more…

WoW, what an argument. ‘leto’ really got me there
I feel so bad and really want to become a non-hater, like ‘leto’

  • olga

    @ Bowen

re: ” On the contrary, people are questioning why Leto is so intolerant and aggressive towards anyone who seems not to share his agenda. ”

I agree with you that Leto could be more civil but I figured he was a Doberman in a previous life (well, that’s what I would think if I believed in reincarnation) )and he becomes unglued when he perceives his “family” which would be Hungary and its people, to be in “danger”
I could only see myself unglued if someone attacked my kids who are no longer kids, but that’s me.

Because I know how well educated and knowledgeable he is about Hungary, IMHO he should be arguing about FIDESZ’ merit in the “Obama Style” and try to keep his opinions about gays to himself. So I shall tell Leto that as soon as he asks for my opinion :) )

BTW, he can dish it but he doesn’t seem phased by people like wolfi calling him a rabid kutya , while he calls Wolfi a foreign alcoholic or whatever. Obviously some people enjoy name calling but you will never find Leto nor Wolfi attack people’s families because decent human beings don’t do that

Today, someone wrote to Leto : “Why are you so obsessed with Morel? Did he fuck your grandmother ” etc

FYI, I consider Leto an absolute Prince compared to someone like that, odious remarks about gays notwithstanding

BTW, he is not an anti-Sem , Ricsi and Double are. Gotta run , I actually have to work the rest of the day… bummer

    • Deposit

I think Leto gets what he asks for. Nobody should write bad things about someone’s grandmother, but nobody should insult other people on a daily basis either.

      • Punisher

It seems the final score is Punisher 3, Leto 0. thanks for playing. Grab a book.

        • Paul

          @Punisher

          So cheap!

          • Punisher

            Too bad for you.:)

I am appalled by your comparing a nice and cute Doberman, with that thing called ‘leto’

Maybe I should report you to the The Animal Welfare Foundation of Canada (AWFC) for putting the Doberman breed in disrepute?

  • get real

guys, don’t deviate from the thread :

I am with Orban on this one!

    VIVA TRIANON!
