Orbán in scathing attack on EU, says Brussels wasting time, hindering efforts of nations tackling crisis

EU officials are wasting time on toys for pigs and the mood of geese when hundreds of thousands are losing their jobs and the single currency is collapsing, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on Saturday in a scathing attack on EU institutions.

“EU officials are wasting time on toys for pigs and the mood of geese”

Meanwhile, Hungary’s government is concentrating on the important things that really matter: re-naming streets; rebuilding Kossuth Ter; putting up giant football stadiums in the middle of nowhere; trying to bury a fascist writer’s ashes in Romania; and making sure the Hungarian economy and currency is stronger than at any time in history (OK, I lied about the last bit).

“I lied about the last bit”

You almost always lie, that’s why you’re a rotten postcommie bastard. Did you say good morning? You meant it to be a lie.

Hungary, central Europe’s most indebted nation, is not a member of the euro zone

    Says it all:
    Cannot blame the Euro
    Cannot blame the EU
Can only blame the Hungarians themselves
No one hardly blame the EU for Greece’s problem, so why should even a non-Euro member be able to blame the EU/Euro for their problems
No, the typical Hungarian attitude, sadly:
    * We did not do it, so we need more free money!

There is only one Hungarian politician that comes to mind as taking responsibility and digging out Hungary out of its own hole – Lajos Bokros, Finance Minister 1995-1998, which lead to the only good financial years Hungary has had since en of the 70s

VO: “we must establish our own economic systems and in doing so, we will have made an enormous step towards success,” Orban said. Pardon?…success?…doesn’t make any sense at all…same article…
“Hungary, central Europe’s most indebted nation”…what success??
“However, we must not disown western Europe. We are paddling in the same boat.”….yep…but it doesn’t help if the Hungarian government is paddling in an other direction, does it?

      • Leto. مؤدّب

Yes, it helps because your favourites paddle in the wrong direction.

After the bank and crisis taxes, the Hungarian transaction tax will set an example for other European countries, too.

And after Poland and Slovakia adopting Hungary’s measures, Western Europe will be forced to handle the pension funds similarly:

        Have a nice fuming. :D

Which club do you do stand-up in? I’d like to see your live act.

          Get your facts straight.

          1) Slovakia has not yet passed measures to change pension system. So, it is far form clear that it is adopting Hungary’s measures.

When they actually pass some measures you can compare them to Hungary’s.

At this point you are just dishing out BS.

          2) Poland is not following Hungary’s example and neither will Western Europe.

          ——-

In Hungary, the government has nationalised its pre-funded pension schemes in a bid to slash the budget deficit (see ‘Background’). But Rotowski insisted the situation was different there.

“The government only plans to change the way in which new contributions will be divided between OFEs, personal accounts in ZUS, and new personal accounts in ZUS. Consequently, this situation is completely different than in Hungary,” Rostowski said.”

            Nope – he’s a soccer guy in near life-size.
Never mind though, according to the article above he’s got some new toys, keeps himself busy…

“we will have made an enormous step towards success”

    Indeed..!
Unfortunately we need a further 365.085.465.235.957.000 steps, so it will take some time to get there…

Here’s a very interesting interview with renowned philosopher Professor Scruton:

“MM: One sort of the reaction to Mr. Orbán’s manoeuvring is the anti-Hungarian feeling in Europe and more generally in the whole Western world. Although there are other signs as well, like in Poland, where Orbán is looked at in certain circles as a kind of hero. What sort of role might he play as such a hero in the present situation of the European and global crisis?

RS: I think that is a more interesting political question, really. Because the question about the IMF is not really to do with Mr. Orbán’s politics. There are plenty of countries presently appealing to the IMF and Hungary just happens to be one of them. When it comes to the European Union there are interesting issues which are peculiarly Hungarian. The European Union, as you know, is centred upon the alliance of France and Germany, and in particular on the German need to whitewash its past, to persuade the world that Germany is a civilised nation which has nothing to do with that Nazi episode.”

      @ Leto
Thanks for the Prof. Roger Scruton link. I knew him vaguely, started to read more after looking up your link and he makes some valid strong points here. Practically…well it is a crisis, there is growing poverty and I do not see how any of this will lead to solutions in the short term. I believe in a united strong Europe. But, me too, I have doubts, like Mr. Scruton. I am not too fond of decadence either, and so on… He is a romantic though. Maybe we can not afford to be like that.
Still….you gave me lots to think about with this link.
      Thanks.
