Poll shows majority of Hungarians against voter registration

Only 25% support the idea of voter registration, according to the latest survey conducted by Nézőpont Institute, while 70% would like to see everyone given a chance to vote.

The survey reveals that 30% of eligible voters would vote for Fidesz, 13% for Jobbik, 10% for the Socialists, 6% for LMP, and 3% for the Democratic Coalition. Of respondents 39% did not answer or would vote for other parties.

Among supporters of governing coalition parties 82% of respondents said they would register to vote, among Socialist supporters the rate is 66%, and among Jobbik voters 74%.

    82% of 30%=24.6%
    66% of 10%=6.6%
    74% of 13%=9.6%

So at least 40.8% support voter registration. A shocking number and quite different from the 25% in the first sentence of the article. On top of that there is the totally incorrect implication that under voter registration not everyone would have a chance to vote.

If they pass this silly law it is essential that everyone registers. The intention of the law, of course, is to prevent the “don’t knows” joining forces with an opposition party which gains appeal in the last three months of the campaign. FIDESZ know exactly where they are going with this latest devious plan to disenfranchise potential opposition voters.

Good catch, thanks. Fixed last line.

40.8% of those who support one of these three parties. And 25% percents of all eligible voters.

Well, the government has some convincing to do… (I myself don’t need to be convinced. :) I think active voter registration, like in the UK, is a great idea. It’s also fair and just which will improve democracy in Hungary.)

So, more obstacles to vote “improve democracy”?

    You are a true Putin-fan…

He got it right with Pussy riot. I hold Putin second in my heart to OV.

Once all MSZP voters are registered the next step will be to purge them from the voter rolls. This will purify our political system.

Will voter registration require putting down the party we are going to vote for?

If yes, then whats then it will be essentially voting twice, right?

“Will voter registration require putting down the party we are going to vote for?”

          You’re truly such an idiot. No,it won’t.

BTW, the above post is fake, too, of course.
