MSZP suspected of compiling illegal voter database, authorities investigate

Hungary’s data protection authority NAIH has launched an investigation into the opposition Socialist Party’s signature-collection campaign that aims to drum up support for reducing the VAT rate, Magyar Nemzet daily said on Wednesday.

The authority started its procedure after an private individual reported the Socialists on suspicion of building up a voter database under the guise of gathering support for its initiative, the paper said. NAIH head Attila Peterfalvi has confirmed that an investigation is under way.
